I grabbed a lavender colored book off one of the many shelfs Ace had in his home. I turned it around to look at the cover and saw weird symbols I had never seen before. as I looked at it a little longer the symbols changed into English.
the title of the book was Herbs and Medicine. I furrowed my eyebrows at how the symbols changed, but waved it off when I smelled something delightful coming from the kitchen.
Ace came out of the kitchen with a pot of soup and laid it on the dinning table. a bowl sat at the opposing end from the soup on the table with a wood spoon and a wood cup full of water.
"sorry that you can't read any of the books. they're all in my species language, I think the human world would call it a "dead language" since I'm the only one left." Ace said in a casual manor as if it didn't bother him that he's all alone.
"doesn't that bother you?! that your... alone?..." I asked walking up to the table watching Ace's eyes for any hints of expression. he shrugged as he poured me a bowl of the delightful smelling soup.
"my village was destroyed and everyone was killed when I was too long to remember. I guess you could say I'm use to being alone.... it's odd to have someone else in my house if you know what I mean." he said looking up at me with bright conjecture eyes that kind of made me feel...something...
something unpleasant stir around in my stomach, but stopped after a little while.
"I kinda know how you feel. when I was younger my parents were always at work leaving me to take care of the house while they were gone. whenever Brandon or Doc came over it felt weird to see someone." I commented looking at my soup. the room grew silent as I ate the soup.
the soup tasted surreal, it was the most delectable thing I had ever ate. I have to admit though, it was weird eating food someone else made for me and only me. no Brandon or Doc to joke to about how their days were.
Doc and I would make fun of Brandon's greasy hands from working of motorcycles all day. we would call him "Mr slick". the unpleasant feeling came back.
"Are you ok? you seem really quiet which is odd because you like to talk a lot." I quickly looked up and saw Ace flipping a page in a book not looking at me. the unpleasant feeling subsided.
"ya I'm fine, I was just thinking about Brandon and Doc." I went to take another bite of the soup, but realized the bowl was empty.
Oh no, now I have to ask for more! I don't want to take food from a lonely dude who feels weird with another person in his house! I thought and left my spoon in the empty bowl and stared at it longingly.
I wished food would just appear in the bowl if I stared at it hard enough. I thought.
"Do you want more? you look like your about to cry just staring at the empty bowl." His tone was devoid of emotion as he held out his hand waiting for me to hand him the bowl.
Thank you so much! I thought and smiled while I nodded quickly and handed him the bowl.
he poured me another bowl of soup and as he did so I stared at the beautiful food drain into the bowl. Ace returned with a full bowl of soup and laid it in front of me.
I ate it quickly almost like if I left it there for too long then something was going to came and take it.
"I have a couch in the living room if you want to sleep on it? I'll be reading most of the night so I won't be using it." I gratefully excepted his offer and took my now empty bowl, spoon, and, cup over to a sink in the kitchen.
the sink was a clear stone that had a few other bowls in it, but the faucet was made a strange vine that poured water whenever something came close to it. I went to clean the dishes, but couldn't find soap to use.
"Ace, do you have soap I can use to clean the dishes with?" I asked and heard foot steps come from behind me.
"yes, if you rub this stone it will perpetrate a cleaning solvent that you can clean the dishes with." Ace rubbed the stone and purple sudds came from the rock.
we cleaned the dishes and dried them off with a soft fabric. I walked into the living room and took my place on the couch.
I took off Brandons leather jacket and laid it on the back of the couch. Ace handed me a large blanket made of some kind of navy blue fur.
Ace sat by the fireplace in the living room watching the fire burn. he watched the flames curl and twist in graceful designs.
"how are we going to find Brandon and Doc?" I asked curled up in the soft blanket. Ace turned around and looked at me.
"I have a few ideas, but you shouldn't worry about them. they're more than capable of taking care of themselves down here in DreamNest." he said giving me a little comfort as I drifted off asleep.
Sorry this chapter was a little on the dry side, but I wanted you guys to know a little more about Ace and his background. If you have any questions for the characters go ahead and leave them here. If I get enough I'll dedicate an entire chapter for a Q&A with the characters who will answer your questions!
Thanks for reading!
