Ace's POV

I watched Ali slowly fall asleep in the corner of my eye. once I heard her breathing slow I got up from my spot on the floor. Putting on a new cloak as I left the house in the middle of the night leaving Ali alone.

I put the cloak's hood on over my feathers, but my horns went through the top of the hood where I cut holes. I went over to the book store where an old worm greeted me as I walked in.

nobody else was in the shop so I went up to the old worm and watched as he smiled up at me warmly clearly not knowing who I was.

"do you have any more books in the Lignum language?" I asked sternly and watched as the old worms expression change from a warm happy smile too a more sorrowful expression.

"I'm afraid I don't. nobody speaks that language anymore so it would be a wast of space on my shelves." the worm apologized and asked if I wanted anything else.

"Do you have any books on Humans?" the worm nodded and guided me into a back room full of book that were covered in dust and webs. he grabbed three books off one of the back shelves and handed me them with a smile.

as I went to leave I saw a book with a crimson red leather cover with golden clasps in the corners of the binding. the red looks like Ali's hair. I though grabbing it off the shelf and opened it to see the pages were empty and they were made of a nice quality.

this could be good for my drawings. I walked up to the old worm and asked how much it was. walking out of the store I put the books into my satchel and began walking home.

"hello, Messenger." a rough voice said from behind me. causing me to turn around and see who it was.

it was a dog about 18 years of age with black fur and a sword in one hand. in the other hand he had a dagger stained from blood.

"I'm sorry, have we met?" I stood there confused why this young man was staring at me with such a stair that yelled murder. the boy chuckled and I watched as his glare grew stronger.

The glare felt like a dagger inching towards me by the second. It send an uncomfortable feeling throughout my body.

"you don't remember?! you killed my parents in front of me!" he yelled and clenched his weapons harder.

"they were murderers." I said remembering the couple of dogs I was ordered to kill for murder. I didn't want to do this in the middle of the night.

I was tired and this boy was getting on my nerves. The boy sprung at me at high speed, but I stood my ground. before the boy got too close I sent a shockwave of electricity through the ground towards him.

he yelled as it electrocuted him and fell to the ground. my hands were behind my back as I walked closer to him. blue sparks came from my feet as I walked.

I grabbed him by the hair on the top of his head and looked at his face.

"oh I remember you now. you were that pup who would steel from stores. I was told to kill you, but I saw death as an inappropriate sentence." I dropped his head and began walking away thinking we were done with this....interaction.

"fine, I'll just kill that human you brought with you! I'll watch as her blood pours out of her body and cover the floor as she bleeds to death! I could also use her bones as a great paper weight!" the boy yelled and chuckled loudly.

I felt something disgusting stir around inside me. I pictured the image of her on the ground at the feet of this cowered dying from blood loss. the picture enraged me as I slowly turned around towards the boy who was on the ground chuckling still.

electricity engulfed me flipping my hood off. my black horns turned bark blue and sparked. my feathers turned from a navy blue too a light blue and glowed in the dark violently. the holes in my mask shined a bright blue and light up the ground around me.

my black claws turned blue as electricity pulsed through them.

"what did you say you twerp?!" My voice grew deep as my reasonable tone left me in an instant. I growled and glared at him. I kicked his weapons to the side out of his reach when he scrambled to get them. he whimpered as I pulled him up to my face by his white shirt.

"you stay away from her! if I see anyone come after her I will gladly kill them personally!" I threatened and threw him to the ground hearing something crack and break inside of his body from the impact. the twerp quickly ran away with his tail in between his legs.

I sighed heavily calming myself down feeling my body turn back too normal as I did so. I walked home and opened the door to see Ali still asleep and well.

a little sleep wouldn't hurt I guess. I thought and leaned against the foot of the couch gladly closing my eyes ready for sleep to over come me knowing Ali was safe right behind me. I drifted to sleep hearing her soft breathing behind me.
