Coffee Break

The truth hurts

Maddie's P.O.V-

I get up early and take Alfie out for a walk. I hadn't spoke to Anna since last night when we fell out.

I walk past the cafe forgetting that's where he works. I keep walking and go to the park.

After 20 minutes of thinking, I take Alfie back, stopping at the cafe. I tie him up and see Luke smiling as I walk in.

"Hey Blue, what up?"

"I need hot chocolate"

"Oh, someone's not happy today"

"I'm not" I sigh. I felt bad saying this to Luke because I didn't want to seem to mean I was just so angry.

"You okay?"

"No. I had an argument with Anna"

"You can tell me if you want, we're friends now"

"I can't. It's personal, sorry"

"It's okay. I'm sorry, I was being really invasive" I shake my head and walk out of the cafe. I find a note on the cup. He's so caring. I take it in my hand and read it.

'Hey mads, can I call you that? I want to. I hope you feel in a better mood soon. You're friends with Anna so you'll pull through it. Have a wonderful day beautiful'

I kiss the note and keep walking. I smile at the thought of him.

I put Alfie in his room as Anna's working and I change into my uniform.

I get to work with 20 minutes to spare. I go behind the counter and hug Dorothy.

"Hey red"

"What up blue?"

'"Urg I had an argument with my friend"

"What about?"

"A guy called Luke"

"No... Please don't say it. You're not friends with Luke Hemmings?"

"I don't know his surname. He's works in the cafe opposite"

"You can't be friends with him. He embarrassed me so bad"

"What did he do?"

"You'll have to ask him"

"Just tell me"

"No"

"I know where I'm going on my break then"

"Have fun" She says sarcastically while exiting to the back. I see through the window and find Luke walking over. I smile as he approaches.

"You work here?"

"Yes"

"You can't. Dorothy she-"

"Hates you? Yeah, she knows I do. I hate you so much Luke" She walks into the back and glares at him.

"What did you do?"

"It doesn't matter"

"She won't tell me so come on"

"Well back in school, no one liked me. Dorothy was my only friend. I had deep feelings for her but she didn't feel the same. I didn't know that, I though she felt the same, she made me believe she liked me like that. She used to hold my hand, kiss my check and all stuff like that, I honesty thought she liked me. I told her I loved her in class and everyone heard, they laughed at me. It was mostly laughing at Dorothy because I liked her. All her friends disowned her and everyone laughed at her. I felt so bad but she wouldn't understand that I did love her. Not anymore. She showed me the real her. She showed me she preferred to be popular than to have a real friendship"

I pull him into a hug over the desk. I hear him let out a breath. I see Dorothy walk out and glare at me.

"He brainwashed you didn't he?"

"No Dorothy, he didn't. He told me why you're such an idiot"

"Idiot? He embarrassed-"

"No, he showed you his true feelings and you hurt him. Everyone did"

"He did! He made everyone hate me and it wasn't even my fault"

"Well I give up. You should be proud to have someone to love you. I never realised how important it was. You're embarrassed that someone had true feelings for you"

"Get out. Get the hell out of my dads shop and don't come back. You're fired"

"Fine" Dorothy walks over and rips my shirt off me as its uniform and I just had my bra on which made me feel uncomfortable. Luke bite his lip and took off his shirt to give to me. I felt horrible.

"Thank you Luke" I say as we leave.

"I'm sorry you lost your job because of me"

"She's an idiot Luke. Don't listen to her"

"It's fine that no one likes me. I have Michael, Ashton and Calum"

"And me" He smiles.

"Come with me, let's get you a shirt that isn't covered in coffee stains" He takes me to the cafe and takes me in the back. He throws over a shirt and I quickly change.I turn around and he's facing the wall.

"I'm done now, thank you for trying around"

"It's okay, a girl needs respect" He faces me and I smile. I run over and hug him.

"I'm so sorry Luke. My friend told me you humiliated girls"

"Was that what you didn't tell me this morning?"

"Yeah"

"I promise it was only Dorothy. She wanted to be a popular girl and leaving me helped her become one. I wanted to show her I still had feelings. Everyone loved her and so they all went against me"

"It's not your fault" I release him and he looks at me.

"Let's get you a job"

"What?"

"My mum owns this shop, I'm applying you"

"LUKE!" I scream with joy.

"I'll make sure you're working with me as well" He winks and I begin to blush.

"But then I don't get a cute message on my cup"

"Well, everyday when you leave, I'll make you a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and write a small note on it just for you. I might make your pay a bit higher than usual but I like youuuuu"

"Thank you so much Luke! You're too nice to me, I don't deserve it. You can call me mads by the way"

"Okay mads" I hug him again but this time, I don't want to let go of Luke. Ever.
