I sat alone in my dorm room again, by choice because I don't really like doing anything else these days but watch TV and play Temple Run on my phone, eating a tub of ice cream that I'd gotten on my way back from a lecture. It was 10PM and I was still waiting on a text from Luke telling me that he was on his way back, I'd been scrolling through every social media I owned just trying to pass time because I seriously under estimated just how long the party would be. I'd actually contemplated stopping by for a few hours after I'd began getting bored more than two hours ago but I'd have felt a little awkward showing up over half way through the party.
Luke had been sending me snap chat videos all night, they were just random things really with captions like "we could be drinking punch together rn but you're not here :(" which I actually found quite funny and sweet. Mostly because he was a little tipsy and got frustrated every time he messed up a sentence slightly and also because he was thinking of me whilst he was there, he was at a party with his friends and he was thinking of me, the thought itself made my heart flutter softly in my chest.
Everyone's snap chat stories consisted of the same things, parties. I felt left out a little but knew that I wouldn't really be enjoying myself much so I guess I wasn't really missing out on too much.
Just as I began to set my phone down, it rang and as I looked at the caller ID I just smiled "Luke Ass"
I instantly picked it up without a second though and quickly realised that he was no longer at the party as I heard his quick footsteps against the pavement accompanied by his short shallow breaths.
"Hey." I whispered, as I continued to the sound of him walking, just soaking the sound in because as weird as it may sound it was oddly comforting and beautiful, just the sound of his walking whilst the trees were slowly brushed by the wind,
"Hey princess, I'm on my way home now." Home, he called it home, the thought of Luke thinking of it as home made me smile giddily to myself like a young school girl, which I guess I technically still am,
"Okay, how far away are you now?" I ask, all too eager to see him again,
"Maybe less than ten minutes, I'm coming up to the corner shop." Luke was so unfit it was almost humorous, he'd probably only been walking for 15 minutes and still somehow sounded as though he was on the verge of an asthma attack,
"Did you enjoy the party?" I asked, curiosity of his day taking over me, I found myself doing this a lot asking how he was about three times a minute and wanting to know every minute detail about his day,
He sighed over the phone and hesitated to answer, dragging it out as I could hear him thinking, "Not as much as I thought I would."
He then stopped walking and muttered almost silently under his breath, "Not as much as I would've had if you were there."
I felt my face heat up but I felt guilty, I'd kind of ruined his night by not going to a party. I was such a boring college student, all I did was stay at home, do my work and watch tv. Now that it was almost over I kind of wished I'd done more.
"Sorry, I'll go next time."
"Don't be sorry baby, you didn't wanna go and that's okay. You don't have t go to parties if you don't want to." I felt relief wash over me, feeling less like a burden by hearing the words, "Do you want anything from the shop while I'm here?"
I thought on it for a few seconds, "Can you get me Doritos?"
"Chilli ones?"
"Obviously." I heard him laugh under his breath,
