"So, do you still regret coming?" Luke asks me from the drivers seat of his car,
He'd woken me up very early this morning to drive back to college, granted we still don't have to be back for another three weeks, Luke decided it would be better to get there earlier so he could get a head start on studying.
So far the ride has been pleasantly quiet, Luke put on some mellow music and I often have found myself almost lulling myself to sleep to the soft beat ot it.
"In my mind I think yes." I start and I hear him let out a completely audible and also completely emphasised sigh, "Then I realise that if I never came here I'd either be stuck in my dorm or forced to attend some stupid family party my parents planned and think I'd rather have spent it with you than them."
When I turn to face him I can just about see a slight smile on his face, one that tells me I've done something right, saying the right things and a strange proud feeling washes over me even as the smile fades ever so slightly.
"What are you planning on doing when we get back to college." He asks, his fingers drumming softly against the wheel,
The soft taps inevitably fill the void and silence in the car as I mould a response, I sit there in the passengers seat wondering exactly what I plan to do. I shrug once again realising that he was too focused on the road to see, I tend to do that a lot.
"I'm not actually too sure." I say wearily though due to the fact that it's early my voice becomes groggy,
A laugh leaves Luke's mouth, though because it's Luke it comes out more like a squeak and this makes me laugh. Before speaking this time I decide to clear my throat.
"Maybe revise a monologue, you know we've got a grading a week after we go back." I mention suddenly realising school word had to be done when I actually went back to school,
While I fiddle with my fingers, Luke hums in a agreement.
"I was thinking of a poem or maybe even a short monologue, I don't think I could come up with something in a month."
I raise my eyebrows, slightly surprised. He writes his own monologues, now I've never heard one of these famous speeches but word around campus is that he has a way with words.
"So you write them yourself." To this Luke just nods before going off to explain that he always has,
The way Luke gets so into things he's passionate about mesmerises me, because not only do I have a short attention span but I also have no patience. I couldn't learn to play guitar, drums or even bass if the boys tried teaching me because I would get frustrated. What I do like to do, is write short little snippets of books I want to write but have no time nor inspiration for.
As I gaze out the window a bright smile washes over my face, "Look Luke it's a music festival."
He stops speaking completely and turns ever so slightly my way, I also see a small smile was over his face. It's almost a look of nostalgia and it only makes me smile all the more harder.
"God, I haven't been to one of those since Calum's 15th birthday." Luke reminisces, his face lights up and I lean my arm in my hand wanting to listen to the story as best I can, this makes sure I'm listening 110%, "He got shitfaced drunk and broke his leg. Joy was furious but got over it."
