I standoff at a distance as everyone waits outside the infirmary room Stark was just rushed into. My fingers rub absentmindedly on the bandages wrapped around my wrist. My wrist and leg still ache, but the pain is dulling. Dr. Banner has already changed the bandages and commented on how healthy they look, which apparently is a good thing.
Captain Danvers steps away from the group and watches as Lil' Steve waddles up to her, no hesitation. He reaches his arms up to her, grabbing at the air.
"Well hello there." She coos as she lifts Steven into her arms. She bounces him lightly as he squeals with delight. She glances up at me with a small smile. "Your son?"
"My nephew." I correct with a shake of my head, pulling him out of her arms. Steven gives an upset shriek as I shift him to my hip.
"Well he's adorable," she says, brushing a hand through his curly brown hair. Steven gives off a happy shriek as he reaches out for her again.
Just then Colonel Rhodes steps out of the infirmary. We both turn to listen in. "Bruce gave him sedatives, he'll be out most of the day." He explains glancing back at Stark, his fiance, and Dr. Banner.
"You guys take care of him." Captain Danvers announces, taking a step forward before turning towards the door. "And I'll bring a Xorrian elixir when I come back."
Captain Roger's eyebrows knit together in confusion as he watchers Captain Danvers walk away. "Where are you going?" He calls after her.
"To kill Thanos," she says simply.
"What?" I call after her. I know she's extra super, but if we couldn't kill Thanos what makes her think she could. Agent Romanoff and Captain Rogers share a look before rushing after her, me and everyone else trailing behind them.
"Hey!" Agent Romanoff calls, making Captain Danvers stop in her tracks. "We usually work as a team here. And between you and me, our worlds a little fragile."
"We realize up there is more your territory, but this is our fight too." Captain Rogers adds.
"You even know where he is?" Colonel Rhodes asks.
"I know people who might." Captain Danvers replies, giving off a curt nod. Well, that's cryptic.
"Don't bother." A gravelly voice calls from behind us. We all turn to see the blue cyborg, Nebula, standing at a far distance from everyone. "I can tell you where Thanos is."
🐺
"Thanos spent a long time trying to perfect me and when he wasn't, he'd talk about his great plan." Nebula explains, holding up her robot arm as proof. He did that to her! Suddenly all my problems seem stupid compared to being torn apart by a maniac. "Even disassembled, I wanted to please him. I'd ask where would we go once his plan was complete. His answer was always the same."
Nebula steps forward, leaning on the table in front of her. She levels a stern glare at everyone before continuing. "To the Garden."
I sit on top of a table holding Steven. The chair behind me creaks as Thor leans back in his seat.
"That's cute. Thanos has a retirement plan." Colonel Rhodes jokes dryly.
"Asshole turned half the population to dust and now he's off gardening," I add with a grumble. Colonel Rhodes points a finger at me in agreement.
"So, where is he?" Captain Rogers asks, circling the table.
A holographic image of Earth appears over the table. "When Thanos snapped his fingers," Rocket explains as he circles the holographic globe, an explosion of waves flies off the face of the Earth as an example. "Earth became ground zero for a power surge of ridiculously cosmic proportions." The image then changes to a different planet. "No one's ever seen anything like it. Until two days ago... on this planet."
"Thanos is there." Nebula states firmly.
"He used the stones again." Agent Romanoff murmurs in astonishment, leaning closer to the holographic globe.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey," Dr. Banner says warningly, seeing where this was going. "We'd be going in short-handed, you know."
"Look, he's still got the stones so-"
"So, let's get them." Captain Danvers says interrupting Colonel Rhodes. She shrugs her shoulders as she continues. "Use them to bring everyone back."
"Just like that?" Dr. Banner asks in astonishment.
"Yeah," Captain Rogers says, speaking for the first time in a while. "Just like that."
"Even if there's a small chance that we can undo this," Agent Romanoff says looking around at everyone. "I mean, we owe it to everyone who's not in this room to try."
I nod my head in agreement. We have to try. We have to try and bring everyone back. "They would do it for us," I say.
"If we do this how do we know it's gonna end any differently than it did before."
"Because before you didn't have me." Captain Danvers says matter-of-factly, a determined look on her face.
"Hey, new girl," Colonel Rhodes snaps. He gestures out to everyone in the room while staring her down. "Everybody in this room is about that superhero life. Maybe not Kidara and the baby, but still everyone else." I make a face at him as he points to me and Steven. "And if you don't mind my asking, where the hell have you been all this time."
"There are a lot of other planets in the universe," Captain Danvers says coolly. "And unfortunately, they didn't have you guys." I snicker a little, starting to like this girl.
It's quiet as everyone contemplates Captain Danvers' plan. The silence is only interrupted by the screeching of a chair. Behind me, Thor moves around the table to stand in front of Captain Danvers.
We all watch as Thor lifts his hand over her shoulder like he's reaching for something. Like he's calling for something.
I release a shriek as Thor's battle-ax, Storm-breaker, suddenly flies into his waiting hand. Steven just squeals and claps his hands like it's the best magic trick he's ever seen.
Thor and Captain Danvers just watch each other. A small smirk begins to pull at Captain Danvers' lips. She's unaffected by the fact that Storm-breaker almost took out her head.
Thor nods his head in approval before glancing around at the rest of us. "I like this one." He announces as he leans forward on Storm-breaker.
"What just happened?" I murmur, glancing around the room. Dr. Banner just gives me a shrug of his shoulders and a shake of his head, his mouth grasping for words, but none came out.
Captain Rogers watches the holographic globe, determination in his eyes. "Let's go get this son of a bitch."
As everyone begins to file out - preparing themselves to fight Thanos a second time - I step up next to Thor. "Was that necessary?" I ask, watching him. Steven reaches out a hand to the god of thunder, babbling away.
Apparently, my nephew has a type. Tall, strong, blonde superheroes. So far, he's wanted to be held by Captain Rogers, Agent Romanoff, Captain Danvers, and Thor. I mean, I can understand his attraction to them.
Thor glances down at Steven with a small, sad smile. "Yes, it was very necessary." He says as he sticks out a finger to Steven, allowing him to wrap his tiny fingers around it. "I was testing to make sure she wasn't Loki."
I nod my head slightly in understanding but stop. "Wait, why didn't you test me like that?"
"Oh, I knew Loki wouldn't desecrate his memory of Sigyn by disguising himself as her. He cared about Sigyn too much to do that." Thor said before walking out of the room.
"Good to know," I mumble with a nod of my head.
