I still have no clue who this guy is. All I know is that his name is Scott Lang, he can shrink/grow (?) and he calls himself the 'Ant-Man'. He was thought to be one of the dusted. But here he is.
Nat and Steve share a look as we watch him pace back and forth in front of us, muttering to himself like a crazy person.
"Man, are you okay?" I ask as he passes me for the fiftieth time. He glances over at me like he's noticing me for the first time.
"Oh sorry, yeah. Hi, I didn't meet you in Germany. I'm Scott." He says as he juts a hand out to me.
"I heard," I respond as I give his hand a little shake. "Kidara."
"Scott, what did you need to talk to us about?" Steve asks as he watches Scott.
"Right," Scott says as he focuses on Nat and Steve. He wrings his hands before he starts. "Have any of you guys ever studied quantum physics?"
"What?" I ask with a tilt of my head, making my hair swish to the side. Where is this topic coming from?
"Only in mid-conversation," Nat says nonchalantly.
"Uh..." Scott raises his hands and starts waving them around like a crazy person. I'm starting to become very concerned now. "All right, so five years ago... five years ago - right before Thanos - I was in a place called the quantum realm. It's like its own microphonic universe. To get there, you must be incredibly small. My girlfriend Hope was supposed to pull me out. But then Thanos happened and I got stuck there."
We all nod our heads slowly, listening to Scott ramble. Steve crosses his arms over his chest as I tug at the Black Panther combat necklace around my neck.
"You see, it was Hope and Hank that always worked the tunnel so I could get in and out. I was sort of their test subject." Scott continues.
I release a snot as I glance over at Steve. "I knew how that felt." I murmur with a chuckle. Steve gives me a light shove in the arm as he shakes his head.
"I only really know how to start it up and shut it down, for emergencies. They knew how to pull me in and out." Scott continues.
"I'm sorry, that must have been a very long five years," Nat says sympathetically.
But Scott just shakes his head. "Yeah, but it wasn't. For me, it was five hours."
"What?" I ask, watching him with wide eyes.
"See, the rules of the quantum realm aren't like they are up here," Scott explains as he slightly turns to me. "Everything is unpredictable. Is that anyone's sandwich?" He asks pointing to the sandwich on Nat's desk. "I'm starving."
He rushes past me to grab the sandwich, taking a very large bite. He sighs through his nose as he munches on it. We all turn to watch him, still processing what he just said.
"Scott, what are you talking about?" Steve asks, trying to keep him on track.
"So," Scott says through a mouth full of bread. "What I'm saying is time works differently in the quantum realm. The only problem is, now we don't have a way to navigate it. But what if we did? I can't stop thinking about it. What if there was a way we could control the chaos and we could navigate it? What if there was a way that we can enter the quantum realm at a certain point in time but then exit at another point and time? Like... like before Thanos."
I tilt my head to the side and raise my hand, completely lost. "I'm sorry, I've gone five years without Shuri talking science to me, could you explain that all again slower?"
"Wait," Steve says, holding a hand up to stop him. Apparently, he understood what Scott said. "Are you talking about a time machine?"
"No," Scott says with a shake of his head. "No, of course- yeah, exactly like that. I know, I know, it's crazy! But I can't stop thinking about it. So, there's gotta be some way..." He trails off. "It's crazy..."
"Scott," Nat says. "I get e-mails from a raccoon. So, nothing sounds crazy anymore."
"I've seen crazier things in the last seven years," I add with a shrug of my shoulders.
"So, who do we talk to about this?" He asks with wide eyes. Scott glances between Nat and Steve as they share a look.
