Taegan’s POV

“Thank goodness only one house left to go” I said, as I rode my bike up the street. I threw it over the front gate and managed to get it to land on the doorstep. Score one for Anderson. I rode back home with renewed energy. I put my bike in the garage then headed towards the kitchen. Mom and dad had decided to go on a holiday break while I was stuck at home for the half term break. “No thanks to Mrs. Lesauvage” I muttered as I made waffles for breakfast. Jane was not in a very good mood as well over the schedule that Mrs. Lesauvage had prepared for them to follow; it was a really pain in the butt. We had initially planned to go hiking, with Lynndra as well. But ever since that Curly Locks got in the picture, it seemed as Jane only spent time with him. I couldn’t blame her; he was a celebrity after all who would ever turn them down? I guess he was sort of good looking.

Wait. Did I just, what’s that word? “Fangirl!” I blurted out. I shook my head. This was getting weird. Why was I upset with Jane going out with Curly Locks? I laughed. I knew his name was Harry; but I don’t like him that much so the name Curly Locks stayed close to my heart. Jane doesn’t know that though, I use his name when I’m referring to him. I settled down and ate my waffles. I had about five bites when I glanced at the clock; it was twenty minutes past eight. Darn, I thought. I’m going be late. I grabbed my bag then headed back out and jogged towards school.

I had just reached the front steps when I ran into Andy.

“Hey, watch it!” she cried out. “I’m sorry. Andy?” I said, “What are you doing here?” Andy was a pretty girl with long brown shoulder hair with natural golden highlights; and she had these beautiful hazel eyes that most girls would kill for. She was popular as she’s the star on the track team and took no nonsense from anyone. I had personal experience if anyone doubted that she could make a guy cry. I shuddered as I recalled first grade. Why would she go to school during break? As far as I knew she wasn’t involved in the play. Lucky her, I thought.

“Oh it’s you Taegan” she said, “Mrs. Lesauvage called me, she said there’s an opening for stage manager and props manager for the Romeo & Juliet play. Zaina’s gonna be my partner” Hang on. Did I hear that right? They’re doing Jane’s and my job? Why don’t I know about this?

“Wait a minute. Did you just say that you and Zaina are the stage manager and prop manager?” I said, “Since when?” She scowled at me. “Since you’ve been gone” she said sarcastically. I bit back a laugh. “Ah, a Kelly Clarkson song” I said, smiling at her. She smiled back. “Since today Taegan” she said, “I’m surprised Jane didn’t tell you. She was here earlier with Lynndra. Well, gotta go! Bye” she said, as she walked through the doors of Haywood High.

That’s odd. Why didn’t Jane tell me about this? I thought, as I walked back home.

Jane’s POV

I shifted in my seat as I watched Ghost with Lynndra. It was a really old movie that I loved, especially the song “Unchained Melody”. It made me cry whenever I hear it. I fiddled with my phone when I suddenly remembered something. I sat up so abruptly that Lynndra was startled. “What’s up with you Jane?” she said, “You look like you just saw a ghost. Get it? Ghost?” “Lame” I muttered. She stuck her tongue out at me and continued watching the movie.

I can’t believe I forgot to tell Taegan that we were off the hook from organizing the play. He’s going to be upset when he finds out that I knew ahead of time but didn’t bother telling him. I dialed his number as I left the living room.

*random music* It rang a few times before he answered. “Hi” he said. He sounds mad. I gulped. “Hey Taegan” I said slowly. “I know you’re mad at me for not telling you about us being off the hook with Mrs. Lesauvage-” He cut me off. “It’s fine Jane. Don’t worry about it” he said, “I’m just glad we’re off the hook. Now we can go hiking like we originally planned right?” He sounded hopeful as if afraid I would reject him. Why would he think that? He’s my best friend; I wouldn’t do that to him. “Sure! You bet! How’s this Friday? We can even do a camp out!” I said excitedly. “You? Camp out?” he taunted. I smiled. “We’ll see who’s the sissy soon Taegan!” I said laughing.
