Chapter 39: Browns are back

Jane’s POV

I walked up to the front door, unlocked in and went in quickly. I tossed the keys to the table by the hallway mirror and headed to my room. I was back at the Browns house after spending my entire half term break at Lynndra’s house, but decided to go back home before it was over. I was supposed to have gone on a camp out with Taegan the first week of break, but he had to cancel at the last minute. His parents managed to get him a ticket to join them on the holiday. Taegan did however, promised to make it up to me by agreeing to do the camp out next weekend instead. I sighed, for two reasons. One was that tomorrow school starts, and the other was because both the Browns would be coming home this evening and I wanted to make sure the house was clean before they returned. I put away my clothes then went downstairs to start cleaning. I better start with the living room, I thought. As I got out the vacuum and started cleaning, my mind drifted off to what I did at Lynndra’s house and with Taegan. We had done facial masks, make up trials, even baking! Mrs. O’Riley was impressed as she tasted our cookies and cakes. It might not be as good as Mrs. Brown cookies, but it certainly was tasty.

 I missed Mrs. O’Riley’s cooking already; she made the best mac and cheese. Lynndra even introduced Niall to her mom, I thought smiling. Her mom of course was shocked. She thought Lynndra was kidding about dating Niall Horan from the One Direction band. She approved him of course; he was a lovely guy after all. He cared a lot for Lynndra and he showed it. Harry hadn’t asked about meeting my parents yet, as he knew that I wasn’t from here; but I felt guilty that Harry would probably never meet my parents. I hadn’t even told them yet about him. I was afraid of their reaction; me dating a celebrity. They were open-minded, but I knew they would not be too keen on him. I sighed. I put the vacuum away to start cleaning the kitchen. When I had finished cleaning the house except for the Browns bedroom and bathroom; I sat on the couch in the living room and relaxed.

“I better call Harry now” I thought aloud. Buster had gone to stay with them ever since my date with Harry at Saber Lighthouse. Liam had asked my permission after finding out from Niall that I would be staying at Lynndra’s house. It was sweet and thoughtful of Liam to do so, I thought. Liam had promised to deliver Buster back today before the Browns arrive home. I quickly dialed Harry’s number. It rang a few times before he picked up. “Hello love” he said, “How are you?” Ok, that was rather formal. It didn’t sound like him either. It could be Zayn again trying to trick me. I bit my lip thoughtfully.

“Hello? Are you there?” he said. “Is this…Louis?” I said slowly. I heard a “How did she-” then mumbled voices followed by what sounded like someone laughing loudly and running away. So my hunch was right, it wasn’t Harry.

“Jane?” the voice quipped up. Was it Harry? “Yeah? Is this Harry?” I said slowly. “Yes. Sorry about that, Zayn made a bet with Louis that you could recognize my voice. So it was Louis that answered just now; and in case you’re wondering that was Zayn laughing” he said as he laughed. “I hope you don’t mind?” “It’s alright babe” I said as I bit back a laugh. “I’m guessing you’re calling about Buster?” he said. “Yeah, are you guys coming over soon? I’m a bit worried that the Browns would arrive here early and if Buster’s not here…” I said, “Well, I would be in trouble”

“Don’t worry! We’re coming over soon!” he said excitedly. Wait, did he just say we? “Erm..We?” I said nervously. I hope they wouldn’t stay long, I thought. I don’t them to stay for a while, but I was sure the Browns would not be happy about it if they were still in the house when they came back. They would be furious. “Yeah, all of us are coming. In fact we’re leaving now. See you soon love” he said before he hung up. I stared at my phone and groaned. I better make dinner now for the Browns; maybe then they won’t mind as much. I headed to the kitchen and started cooking.
