Chapter 13 - Unexpected

Natalie's POV

As soon as I closed the door behind me I threw myself on the couch in my living room. A deep sigh left my mouth. I was so tired and what more - confused. Jeongin's words played in my head.

...he cares more about you...

...he protects you..

"Argh!" I screamed in frustration and ruffle my hair violently. "This kid is new and he doesn't know what he's saying," I convinced myself. More like TRIED to convinced myself because the thoughts about Xukun just couldn't leave my mind. It was like eating a horrible medicine and trying to convince yourself that it actually didn't taste that bad.

But Xukun wasn't a medicine...he was more like a virus.

"Why my life has to be so complicated?" I asked myself and shook my head in defeat. I had always wanted my life to be exciting. Like in an action movie. Bad guys, cool looking fights and all. But now that I thought about it I wished my life could come back to normal. Like it had been before I had discovered Changbin's secrets. Before I had met Xukun.

I would have been happy with Jisung in a healthy relationship. But would I really? Jisung had never looked at me like for a women before Xukun came in a picture. I was just his sister's friend.

But what would have happened if I really hadn't discovered anything?

"What are you thinking about so hard?" a sudden voice made me comeback to reality and froze on the spot. But when I analysed the situation, the fear was replaced with annoyance and disbelief. I stood up and turned around to the source of the noise.

"How did you even get in?" I asked the boy and he just shrugged his shoulders. "I've got my ways," he answered making me roll my eyes.

His chocolate eyes were staring right into mine as his body was leaning casually against the wall. The clothes were the same but his face looked even more tired then before. For a moment I felt sad about it. For a slight moment I wanted to tell him to go to sleep and not to work that hard. But only for a moment.

"Cai Xukun, why are you even here?" I questioned not getting the point of his unexpected visit. "You sent Jeongin to look after me and the house."

"Yeah and he's not doing his job right because I made it in somehow," was his answer and no matter how irritated I was I couldn't disagree with that. "Beside I didn't come here as a spy," the boy added making me even more confused.

Can it be...

...he protects you...

No...it can't be

"You didn't answer my question...why are you here?" I repeated myself.

"To look after you. To keep you safe and keep you company as a...friend," he responded making my heart stop beating for a second. Did I hear it right? ...No...This can't be...doesn't he want to use me?

"You know...I have a boyfriend and-"

"And where is he?" Xukun interrupted me slightly rising his voice out of annoyance. His words made me speechless. I just didn't know how should I react. "Exactly...where is he when you need him? Where is he when you need protection? Where is he when you just need someone to be next to you?" the boy attacked me with another wave of questions not getting any respond from me.

My mind was totally blank. I hadn't even realised when he came closer to me.

Xukun stood right in front of me trying to catch my gaze but I kept my eyes glued to the floor.
