chap 10-the hearing

Swara was sitting with ap and dp.
Ap: swara... tell me.. hwz my son?
Swara knew if she tells them the reality they will break down.
Swara: he is good aunty. Above all..he knows he is right. He has not lost the hope.
Swara lowered her gaze while saying it. Nobody could understand except a pair of eyes staring at him.
Ap: thank god.. my son is very strong.
Swara excused herself from there. Those pair of eyes followed her. Swara entered the kitchen. She took a glass and poured water. Suddenly someone called her. It was laksh.
Laksh: swara... you lied na
Swara didnt answer.
Laksh: your eyes lowered ... you lied...
Swara looked at laksh.
Swara: he is not fine laksh. Not at all. We cant even imagine what he is going through. We have to do something as soon as possible.
Laksh closed his eyes and let two tears washed from his eyes. Swara held his hand.
Swara: if you become weak laksh then who will support your brother.
Laksh nodded. He went away from there. Swara felt something warm flowing from her eyes too. She wiped her tears.
Swara:(monologue) swara... whats happening to you. Why your eyes have tears? Why are you feeling restless seeing him in this condition? Why?

It was late at night. Swaragini and laksh were sitting with dp.
Laksh: dad... please have something. From two days you did not have your meals.
Dp shifted the plate. Ap stand over his side.
Ap: if you will fall weak then who will support our son. Dp ji he needs you. And if your body will not have enough strength then how will you help our son?
Dp looked at ap. Her eyes had tears which she was not allowing to fall. Dp wiped his tears and smiled at her.
Dp: i will ap ji.. i will...
Suddenly swara's phone rang. It was rp.
Swara: ji... ji ok... haanji i will.
Swara: rp uncle called. He said that court has decided first hearing tommorrow morning.

Next morning.
Ap dp laksh ragini and swara were sitting outside court room. Suddenly police van came. They took out sanskar from it. Ap's heart melted inside her seeing his son in handcuffs. His hairs were shabby.. his face unshaven.. his eyes red. A tear escaped from her eyes.
Sanskar on the other hand felt his voice choked out seeing ap. However big a son will become..his inner child comes out seeing his mother.
Dp: ap ji.. dont.... just be strong.
Ap nodded. They all come near sanskar.
Dp: beta.. you had something.
Sanskar nodded. Ap carressed his hair.
Ap: i have full believe on god. Justice will be delivered.
Sanskar nodded trying to hide his tears.
Police took him away. The first hearing started. The lawyer who was against sanskar...everybody shocked to see him. It was rajat roy.. kavita's brother.
Swara: i have understood everything.
Laksh: kavita.... that kavita...

Judge came. Then begin the round of accusations on sanskar.
Rajat: my lord.. doctor is considered as god. But this person.. he not only destroyed this line but also become satan that night. My client was admitted under his guidence to his hospital and he tried to rape her. The proves found on crime scene clearly say the story themselves.

Sanskar's eyes closed hearing these words. Accusations and lies... amidst these he was trapped.

Rp stood up.
Rp: my lord.. sometimes what we see can also be the lie. Sometimes it can be the half truth. Yes my client dr sanskar maheshwari was present at the crime scene but that does not necessarily means it has something to do with the crime. May be he was present at wrong place at wrong time.

Sanskar looked at rp. He then looked at ap and dp.

Rajat: sir... i want to call the victim to the witness box.
A girl came.
Rajat: dont be afraid ... tell me what happened?
Girl: i was admitted to his hospital. He dragged me to the upstairs and tried to molest me but i somehow found a rod and hit it on his head. He knocked out and i called help.

Sanskar's eyes closed hearing these accusations.
Rp: i want to question the victim.
He came near her.
Rp: m so sorry that this tragedy happened with you. But didn't you protest when he was dragging you.
Victim: i hit ..
Rp: no .. not the end.. but the starting.. you have long fingernails. You should have scratched him. You should have bit him.
Girl became silent.
Rp: my lord... during the rape cases.. victim generally try to protect herself by scratching and biting. But there are no marks on my client's body. Moreover..no medical examination of my client had been done. Should i say it was because of concealing the facts from court?

Judge: keeping all these facts in mind.. we should have another hearing on tuesday. Till then dr maheshwari should remain in police custody only.

Sanskar was taken out of court room. Ap and dp came
Dp: dont worry beta... i promise i will make sure you get back what you lost.
Sanskar nodded. His voice was too choked to say a thing. He sat in police van. Dp and ap's eyes teared up. Laksh wiped his own tears. Suddenly swara came and held ap and dp. Ragini came near sanskar.
Ragini: dont worry about family bhaiya. Just take care of yourselves. Only 2 days.
Sanskar: how can i thank both of you?
Ragini: by taking care of yourselves.
The van went away from their view.

@evening
Rp was pacing fast in the hall.
Swara: what happened uncle?
Rp: this case is going in our direction.
Ap: then what is the matter to worry?
Rp: i know rajat. He will go to any extent. And since he is the brother of kavita definitely he will do all his strength to prove sanskar guilty. I just dont know what is his next step.
Swara: that day.. kavita said she will destroy his career. And she is doing that.

TWO DAYS PASSED LIKE THIS. SWARA WAS TRYING TO FIND EVERY POSSIBLE WAY TO PROVE SANSKAR INNOCENT. RAGINI WAS TAKING CARE OF AP AND DP AS BEST AS SHE COULD. LAKSH WAS TRYING TO BE STRONG. THE DAYS WERE STRESSFUL AND THE NIGHTS WERE SLEEPLESS. ON THE OTHER HAND SANSKAR'S CONDITION WAS WORSE THAN EVERYONE. HE HAD NOONE TO SHARE HIS PAIN. HE HAD NOONE TO WIPE HIS TEARS. HE WAS ALONE COMPLETELY.

The day of hearing came. Hearing started. Sanskar was standing as guilty. Judge arrived. Hearing started.
Rajat: my lord.. i would like to call the the guard on duty that night in witness box.
Guard came.
Rajat: yes.. so did you see mr sanskar going upstairs that night.
Guard: yes...
Rajat: who was with him?
Guard: he was with dr swara.
Rajat's eyes glittered.
Rajat: you can go now. My lord.. now o would like to call ms kavita roy to the witness box.
Hearing her name sanskar felt numb for a moment. He looked at kavita standing right in front of him in witness box. Same face whom he loved for years is now standing against him.

Rajat: ms kavita.. you and dr maheshwari were in relationship?
Kavita: yes..
Rajat: but you were not happy?
Kavita: yes..
Rajat: may i ask the reason why?
Kavita looked at sanskar. His eyes had the plead.
Kavita: because of his charecter. Looking and talking bad about every other girl. I thought i could change him. But...
She shed some fake tears. Sanskar closed his eyes. He was pitying on himself for loving this girl.
Rp stood up.
Rp: my lord... i want to question ms roy.
He came near kavita.
Rp: miss kavita.. is it true that case of drug dealing is going on against you?
Kavita: yes...
Rp: ohhh... so a drug dealer is testifying against a doctor against whom no single charge has been proven.
Kavita's expression changed.
Rp: my lord.. when kavita was arrested she threatened dr sanskar to ruin his career. It has all been recorded in cctv footage.
Cctv footage played in the court. Everybody saw kavita screaming at sanskar. Rp smirked.
Rp: now my lord.. the value of this witness is low as per the law.

Rajat stood up
Rajat: i want to call dr swara to witness box.
Everyone was shocked. Sanskar looked at swara then at rajat. He noticed an evil smile on his face.

Sanskar shouted.. yes.. i am the rapist..
