I really did think we were dead.

I mean there was no way he could have jumped far enough out of the palace to get us to the water.

We were going to hit the rocks.

The air was rushing around us, tearing out the expensive ruby clip that Razor had used to push my white hair out of my face, it tore at my dress, the heels ripped off my feet, and then we were just falling.

This was it.

I was actually going to die.

I opened my eyes, and met the stoic face of Kronos.

Might as well die with a view.

His one arm was wrapped tightly around my waist as the world around us seemed to freeze in the moment he looked down into my eyes.

My world shuddered as he took me in, saw me, for the mess that I was, but he did see me.

Not the way that Razor did, in some deluded view, or the way the world did as a bastard princess, or even the way my family did as some hard-headed girl. He saw the broken bits, the pieces that had chipped off because the world had hit me just a little too hard.

He saw it, and he didn't look away, he just stared and accepted.

Maybe it was my last gift before I died.

One person to truly see me, see past the sharp comments and the uncontrollable anger.

Someone who just saw a regular girl, who was tripping through life, but she was still trying to get through life.

I felt my eyes well up, knowing we had to be close to the end of our fall, knowing it was all about to end, but I didn't want to look away. Not from him, not from the last bit of life I was going to be able to see.

The air ripped out of my chest, I knew it was coming, no more than another second away.

And there looking into Kronos' eyes, I watched his face soften, just barely, before it contorted into something I'd never seen before, as his eyes, his warm brown eyes turned completely black, a slit of pure gold cutting across his eyes.

I know my jaw dropped in shock by how stunning he really was. His hair seemed to curl more and slip into a blue-black, his skin glowed, and I was stunned.

His arms tightened around me, like he thought I would try get away from him.

I was baffled, and then he looked at me again with those eyes, and his face looked struck dumb.

We both were mirroring each other's expression, shocked and fascinated.

Too bad we were about to die.

The world tore, a loud ripping sound shut off all my senses, my eyes closed on their own as my ear began to ring till it was completely silent.

Fuck.

I died, didn't I?

Then the world crashed back into me.

Literally.

My body scraped and rolled against the hard ground, before a cracking sound racked against my ears, forcing my eyes open as everything finally stopped moving.

I blinked slowly, trying to figure out why grass was in my mouth, as I looked up to see I sprawled under Kronos, his large body caging my own as he just stared down at me.

His brown eyes now back.

He was staring at me like he had never seen me before, his eyes wide and an almost wild look in them as he looked down at me. Like he couldn't believe I was there.
