Both my knees looked like I run them up and down on a cheese grater. My face was covered in dried tears that I had let drip into the dirt with my knee blood.
But nothing.
I had been out here for hours.
Just throwing myself to the ground, hoping something would happen.
I let my head hang, trying to ignore the fact that my knees were burning like shit.
"You look ridiculous", Kade's voice broke through to me.
The past four hours had been wasted of me no doubt looking like an idiot, even going so far as trying a fucking rain dance.
No dice.
I turned to look at her, glaring at her through the curtain my escaped hair had made.
I let myself drop to my ass and sat on the dark, charred ground.
"Thanks" I sighed watching as she came and sat down beside me.
"You know, back when I was first decided to become a Khan, there were no other women. Women could not be Khan's, not where we are from. Women are expected to sit quietly besides their males. Women are highly revered, but they are expected to be silent and strong, while the Males talk. Although women lead, it is all a very confusing system and hard to walk and I found I couldn't walk it" she sighed quietly.
I stared at the calmness over her face, "so what did you do?" I asked.
"When the male who succeeded my Father took the Khan title, I killed him" she shrugged.
Not like I could judge.
"How'd that work out for you?"
"I was imprisoned" she rolled her eyes in annoyance, "until Kronos came around and had me released. He had taught me to fight and had no clue that the lessons he had given me would be put to use by me murdering the new Khan of my territory" she huffed a laugh.
I peered at her, watching as the memories washed over her features, "did you fight for Khan?" I asked.
She nodded, "an all out war. Me against hundred of men, it lasted a full two days, before I killed the last one. Then I earned the title that males get without any merit. Males will tell you to just let it rush over you, let the power come to you, as power comes to males", she shook her head, turning her deep blue eyes onto me, "we snatch that power, we fight for it, we achieve it and then we wield it. We have that power, but we have to grab it, take it and like males we make it answer to us" she answered fiercely.
A smile played at my lips, before I sighed heavily, "I wield weapons, not make plants grow".
She rolled her eyes at me, "you opened your own portal and brought us here. Only the strongest of the strong can achieve that. You have power. And those two imbeciles inside might not have been able to tell, but you did not use the power of the Sector when you opened that portal ... or portals" she said leaning back onto her hands, even as my eyes widened slightly. "Relax, I will keep your secret" she smiled, winking at me, making her look like a true 18 year old girl.
I smiled back, "thanks, I'll give it a try" I smiled.
She stood up slowly, "yes, you do that, maybe then you can stop the bleeding and tears on the ground" she rolled her eyes as she turned around and headed back towards the castle behind us, "and now that I have taught you something, you may now call me Daddy" she called out before disappearing.
My laugh chasing her back to castle.
I shook my head as I looked down at my dirt and scraped hands.
