Chapter 40: Failed?

'Oh shit,' Capricorn and Virgo said to each other as they peered down at the bloody mess lying on the floor. They quickly glanced at each other before looking back at the gory scene. There on the once shiny, brown, wooden floor, laid members of the Fairy Tail. Almost all of them were unconscious, and there were some still struggling to move, to even make the slightest breath in fact.

"Has the Lady pulled you aside and told you that she already sent someone?" Virgo quietly whispered to her colleague. The man merely shook his head no and proceeded to look back down at the scene on the floor.

"If the Lady were to send someone before us. It would have been him," Capricorn pauses for a moment, "and he would not have left such a bloody scene behind. This is definitely the work of another enemy of the notorious Natsu Dragneel."

"Do you think it could have been another gang?" Virgo asked as she pulled her eyes away from the scene, believing that some of those people on the floor probably dead.

"From the looks of the attacks, numerous of them are covered in slashes and physical attacks rather than the regular use of bullet holes," Capricorn said as he proceeded to lean a bit closer in order to get a better view of the attacks.

"Slashes? Physical attacks and not bullet holes?" Virgo quietly whispers to herself. Then, it suddenly hit her, "it's them isn't it?"

Capricorn could only sigh as he noticed the brand of the attacker, "It looks like the Lady may have another troublemaker on her hands. It will be harder to have Lady Lucy come home at this rate."

"What should we tell the Lady?" Virgo asked as she peered a bit back into the room, just to see whether or not any of the members have noticed her and Capricorn from the ceiling.

Just as Capricorn was about to reply to his partner's question, his ears picked up on a familiar sound. He quickly shut his lips and ducked his head out of sight. As soon as he was sure that no one from down below was able to see him, he peaked his eyes to see if his guys were right.

In walked a very familiar blonde woman, her hands were handcuffed to a man with freakishly long green hair. His guts were telling him the truth. He knew that he would always be able to detect that voice. It was the voice of his once beloved friend: Lucy Heartfilia.

'Why is she here now? Does she have anything to do with this? Does Lady Layla know that her daughter would already be here?' Capricorn thought, with each question that trailed in his brain only made him more confused about what was happening.

Virgo got tired of waiting for Capricorn to respond, all he was doing was standing there deep in thought and clearly ignoring her. So, she decided to have peek for herself. Just as she was about to get a full view of the person that Capricorn was thinking about, the man pushed her head down quickly, causing Virgo's hands to hit the ledge while she was trying to protect her head.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Virgo said, almost loosing her composure and yelling at Capricorn, "why would you do that?"

Virgo looked up at Capricorn and saw him with his skin pale white, paler than she has seen before. 'What was he looking at' she thought. Virgo looked down and she soon realized the reason for Capricorn's speechlessness. It was Lucy. Lucy Heartfilia.

"We've been found out Virgo," Capricorn said as she stared into the glaring eyes of the daughter of his Master. She is sure to punish them rather confront her mother this time.

"Lu—" Virgo began to say out loud, but was suddenly stopped by the hands of Capricorn slapping onto her mouth and pulling her away. The two made a quick getaway back through the vents and back into the streets. Just he knew they were safe, Capricorn released his hands off of the mouth of Virgo, "Why did you stop me from calling out Lucy? Is it not the Lady's desire to have her daughter home?"

"Did you pay attention to what Lady Layla wanted? Our mission was to take out the members of Fairy Tail. She did not expect us to handle Lucy directly. Do you think she would willfully come with us? Did you see what happened in there? Lucy is sure to blame us and not want to come with us! But that's not the point, we were only supposed to get her to go to Lady Layla," Capricorn ranted on, but as soon as he realized that he was was shouting too much and gaining the unwanted attention from other people on the street, he soften his tone, "Do you understand? All we need to do now is to report back to Lady Layla and tell her what happened."

Virgo stares at Capricorn as he finally finished his ranting. She had no words to rebuttal, "But you still didn't need to drag us out of there too fast."

"I had to. Did you not see that Natsu Dragneel was a mere second behind her? If he were to get involved it would have been more complicated," Capricorn said as he casually began to walk the streets.

"Now who would have made the situation more complicated," A mysterious voice said behind the two.

Chills ran up both the spines of Capricorn and Virgo and they heard that voice. There is no way they catched up with them this quick.
