Chapter Nine : Stakes

We found the checkpoint directly ahead of us, it was about 3 yards away.

"I'm getting into the communications now. Macy, make sure to get yourself set up on the roof behind us." Mercedees said

"Alright!" Macy said, grabbing her rifle and making her way to the building south from us.

"Okay and...now! Dash! Mia! Go!" Mercedees shouted

"Right!" I called

I started to run towards the checkpoint, looking behind me to see if Mia was catching up.

"Mia! I need a boost!" I shouted, seeing the soldiers now aiming their weapons on us

"Stay back citizen! Or we will open fire!" One of the soldiers cried

These weren't military personnel from our country, these were Fan's men. Those were orders I won't follow. Mia made her way ahead of me and got on her knees, She laid her hand on her knee as flat as she good and pressing off my right foot, I launched myself into the air and landed on her hand. She responded by launching me into the air, this enhanced strength power could come in handy. I was worried to use this but I had no choice, I needed to put my new found power to the test.

"Rrraggghh!" I cried

I flipped in the air and threw my foot into the checkpoint flooring, an axe kick if I recall. My foot was halfway into the floor and I took out about half the soldiers on the checkpoint.

"Mia!" I cried

I saw her in the air, speeding towards one of the soldiers.

"Seyaa!!" Mia cried

Mia threw her fist into the soldier as she hit the ground, the soldiers were sent back, slamming into a building about 10 yards away. I finally got my foot out.

"That was nice Mia!" I cheered

"T...thanks" Mia said, blushing

We managed to clear the checkpoint faster than I was anticipating. We started to make our way back to the group to report before I felt the entire ground shake below me.

"The hell was that?!" I cried

"I...I don't know" Mia said

The ground shook again, I fell back onto my ass. Abby and Mercedees and a crowd of people came running by, Abby and Mercedees stopped

"Mercedees! What's going on?!" I asked

"We need to leave now!" Mercedees cried

"Why?" I asked

I then started to hear the grinding of machinery, it sounded like a...

"We need to leave!!" I shouted

"What's wrong, Mercedees and now you?!" Mia cried

"Well, when I feel the ground shaking under my feet and see plumes of dust rising, rubble tumbling, and people running for their lives, I would say that's a justified reason to start leaving" I cried

But I knew it was too late to run, because I saw it walking towards us. It wouldn't be long until it arrived.

"Guys we have to fight it head on!" I shouted

"Are you fucking insane!!" Abby screamed

"We have no other choice!" I cried

I turned back around and was now about 3 feet away. I cursed myself, we had no time!

"Let's go!" I shouted

We all ran towards the metallic behemoth, this thing was twice...no probably 20x my size! Its fist came towards me so I quickly strafed to the right, barely missing his attack. I heard screams from behind me, Abby and Mercedees were hit and flew back into the building behind us.
