the canary never gets a happy ending.
it's given the freedom of flight, but is always fooled by the rattlesnake.
though the songbird knows that her heart is true, the snake whispers promises of a better life, and the canary always succumbs.
instead of staying in it's perch, the canary is convinced to fly somewhere unknown where the rattlesnake is waiting to attack the vulnerable song bird.
the canary never gets a happy ending.
