Written by Oz, to the four maidens.

The familiar sound of this rocking chair,

facing the cold window pane.

Waiting, but never really knowing,

purpose and time - wax and wane.

I thought that I had finished;

My day, having arrived and left.

Now I would sit and watch my reflection,

of much wisdom I possessed not yet.

Through the falling snow I spotted,

an anomaly disturbing to me.

The very personification of winter,

sitting, such tranquility...

But sleep assailed my eyes,

its length and depth unexpected,

I awoke, and to my surprise,

before me was verdant, perfected!

Her hands were quick to plant;

Her eyes bearing leaves with fruit;

As soil was moved, it soon was proved,

her toils were yielding deep roots.

Yet another whose light brought warmth,

and her brightness was so beguiling;

"Come outside and visit" she spoke,

denial was no match for her smiling.

After time, at table we rested.

Such happiness I could not recall.

So content was I, that barely was spied,

the silent footsteps of new fall.

Still flash of oranges and reds-

drew my gaze towards maiden fair;

Soft-setting sun, warm tint upon,

casted as leaves in her hair.

Sudden wellspring of gratitude crashed-

It filled my heart overflowing!

What did I do to deserve?

Sun then Autumn; Peace, then Growing...

Euphoric, I granted them powers,

to use as they surely would need,

Knowing in wistful realization,

by my side they soon would leave.

But visit they must, and visit they would!

Each within their own times and places.

Though passed have been, so many lifetimes of men,

I could never forget their faces.
