The Edge of Doubt (Ruby)

Will this struggle ever end,

will my hopes this long endure?

And what will victory look like,

when sullied is all that was pure?

And who with will we celebrate,

when all of our friends are lost?

Can our minds and souls possibly pay

this wars' incredible cost?

Will we come out at the end, the same as before,

and remember the sounds of our laughter?

Will the reading of pages,

within the stories of our lives,

finish with a "Happily Ever After."?

This darkness which threatens to strangle the light,

even able to snuff out the day;

to cover our eyes,

to deafen our ears,

uncontested to do as it may;

I train and I fight and uphold what is right,

and capture each moment I live;

But sometimes it seems that unlike my dreams,

there is not enough within to give.

I know that I'll doubt, that I'll waver with conflict,

never to show on my face.

While my stomach is churning,

and heart is left burning,

I will push it all down to its place.

My mother and father, my sister, my friends,

in my heart, please do not resent,

that I've made no mention

of my fears and my doubts,

of time to secret battles I've spent.

I will straighten my knees and flatten my shoulders,

Stand tall amongst enemies and foes.

I will reach for my weapon,

and with a gaze ever colder,

I will show them the edge of my Rose.
