CHAPTER 18: PRELUDE OF LIGHT

~Aranwen~

The first thing I saw was light. I was back to my old self, staring up at the tall shelves that extended up towards the ceiling. The Vashta Nerada were gone, and I was alive. I scrambled to my feet.

I'm alive, I'm alive, I am so alive.

I leaned against the bookshelf to steady myself, smiling slightly because he'd done it. The Doctor had saved us.

"Aranwen! Louna!" I heard the familiar voice call.

"I'm here!" I cried back hoarsely. It wasn't another moment before I felt myself being scooped up, I was so dizzy I could hardly see what was going on.

"There we are," the voice said, it was the Doctor, "Everyone is back, everyone is safe."

"It's over?"

"Yes, It's over."

"What happened?"

"The Vashta Nerada are gone," he paused, "and so is Korst."

"That's good," I replied weakly.

"To say the least," he chuckled in reply.

"What happened with the others?"

"They've left the library, they're all okay, we even found Delilah," he spoke as he began to walk.

"So everyone is safe?"

"Everyone is perfect... Well, except for poor Maisey, the girl was never properly with us."

"How do you mean?"

"Well," he paused to shift me in his arms, "Korst was just using her like a skin suit, the girl was long gone by the time we had met her. Now then, I have a question for you."

"Ask away," I sighed, resting my eyes for a moment.

"What exactly did you do to keep the Vashta Nerada distracted like that?"

"Remember all that time ago when you picked me up in Wales? At Torchwood."

"yes, of course. I never forget a companion, let alone meeting them," he said, glancing down and smiling.

"Well...While I was there this man named Owen, he ran some tests since  I just fell through the time vortex and then the rift. Logically a human couldn't survive that, so we found out that... well..."

"...That...?""

"That I'm not entirely human."

"Not human?" He looked down again, confused. "I mean I always knew something was slightly off... Just never sure of what..."

"Well. I'm... like you. A timelord. but at some point gene spliced... so also part Weeping Angel..." I spoke slowly, afraid of how he was going to react.

"Timelord...?" He asked quietly. "You're positive?" His voice was strained suddenly.

"Yeah... Jack said I must have ended up with the angels somehow... you know. Before the war..." I didn' t know what I was talking about, more so repeating what Jack had told me.

"I'm not alone," he whispered, he pulled me up into more of a hug and pressed his lips to the top of my head. "And neither are you."

"Are the other timelords gone?" I asked softly, he nodded at first and sniffed.

"I thought I was the last... it's us against the universe, Louna. You and me."

"And Amy and Rory?" I asked. He went quiet for a long moment.

"...Well I suppose we'll just see how the story unfolds," he pulled back enough to look at me and smiled, eyes glassy and full of a distant sadness.

"Right. Right..." I smiled encouragingly. "Well, Doctor. Let's so what we always do."

"And what is that?"

"Carry on."

"Carry on!" He exclaimed and let me down to stand by him. "To the TARDIS!" He grabbed my hand and I couldn't help but  laugh as he pulled me along after him. We burst through the now open doors of the library and erupted out into the sun.

The sun had set while we were in the library, which meant we'd been trapped in there all night. Not that I remembered the longer portion of it.

"Where's Amy and Rory?" I asked as we slowed to a walk."

"TARDIS," he answered cheerfully, swinging our hands. I smiled, a slight hop to my step.

"Back home in the TARDIS, at long last," I sighed happily. "I feel like it's been forever since I've seen that room."

"Oh  come now, it's only been a day."

"For you! You weren't shrouded in absolute darkness."

"Alright, you got me!" He replied, kissing the top of my head.

We walked for a while longer down the street until we got to the TARDIS, sitting just inside an alley by the town forum.

"Here we are," he announced, letting go of my hand, fishing the TARDIS key from his pocket and unlocking the door, throwing it open and stepping inside. I followed, home at last.

Amy was lounging on the steps up to the hallway, glasses perched on her nose and an old book in hand. She was back in her regular get up, dark shorts and tights, boots, a striped shirt and a solid colour scarf. Rory was sitting a few steps behind her doing nothing, back in jeans and a t-shirt.

"Hello, hello, hello," The Doctor greeted the pair cheerfully.

"Doctor!" Amy replied, looking up from her book and smiling. "Louna, you're back!" She continued, smiling.

"Well, the gang is all here," commented Rory.

"Oh yes!" The Doctor laughed before hopping off down the hall to change back into his slacks, tweed jacket, and bow tie. I shook my head and gave Rory and Amy a small two finger salute before running off to change into one of my usual dresses.

I stayed in my room for awhile, just to take a short break from everything, all the commotion. Once I'd gathered my thoughts I quickly pinned up my hair and walked back out into the Console room. Amy and Rory were seated next to each other on the stairs now, the Doctor hopping around the console and toying with various parts of it.

"Doctor," Rory spoke up once I'd entered the room.

"Yes?" He replied, spinning around on his heels before facing Rory and Amy.

"There's something we'd like to talk about," she continued.
