Avengers POV
"Where's (Y/N)?" Steve asked as he and the rest of the Avengers helped prepare lunch.
"She's gonna eat in her room. She's cooling down and gonna rest this afternoon," Clint answered, setting his plate on the table. "I think she'll be good to help this afternoon, though, Stark." The once silently cheering Tony started to roll his eyes.
"You didn't hurt her too bad, did ya?" Natasha joked.
Clint just shrugged and raised his eyebrows.
"Did you?" Natasha stated again, more seriously this time.
"I'll talk to everyone once we all sit down," Clint assured, leaving Natasha with a strange feeling, though she said nothing as she walked to the table.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright, what happened during training?" Natasha started once everyone had sat down.
"Well, we were sparring, and I told her that I was gonna come at her with full speed."
Everyone nodded, understanding this.
"She agreed, though looked a little nervous, and we started fighting. She was doing pretty good, but then she got on top of me. She had this glint in her eye, but I couldn't tell what it was. She was a little beat up, but it didn't stop her. She got ready to throw a punch, but I blocked her and threw her across the room."
The table became uneasy.
"I ran over to make sure she was okay, and when I looked down, she was crying, mumbling things I couldn't understand. The only thing I could make out was 'never been able to get it out before... unfair. I asked her what the matter was, and all she said was 'ask Steve and Natasha.'"
The Avengers averted their eyes from Clint and stared at Steve and Natasha, who had been whispering through the entire conversation.
"You know what it's about, don't you?" Wanda stated.
"Yes, but it shouldn't be shared to all of you if only (Y/N) gave Clint her permission," Steve said.
"Oh come on," Tony remarked. "You can't just tell a whole story and then not tell us the ending."
"It's not my secret to share," Steve said again.
"We're a team," Falcon joined in.
The Avengers kept making remarks and the talking turned into yelling.
"STOP!" a new voice joined in, and the Avengers whipped their heads over at the new voice, their own slowly muting.
(Y/N).
Your POV
You heard shouts coming out of the kitchen on your way to the hospital quarters to go get some ointment for a nasty scar on your face. You wanted to be mad at Clint, but in a situation like his, the idea of throwing someone across the room didn't sound like a bad idea.
You continued on your way, ignoring the shouts of the Avengers. Your brisk pace slows to a stroll as you heard Cap shout. He never did that, or it seems like he'd never shout.
You completely stopped when you heard someone shout your name. You suspicously turned around and walked to the door to the kitchen, your bruised fists slowly wrapping around the handle.
When you first walked in, no one notices you. Maybe in your black pants and white shirt, you looked like a regular worker.
But the shouts became louder. You didn't want to cause any trouble.
"STOP!" you yelled, wanting for them to do more important things than argue all day. "I'm not important enough for you to be arguing over," you pleaded when they quiet.
"Oh come on!" Tony groaned.
"You've already said that, we don't need to hear it again," Captain scolded.
"Guys, I don't want you to think that I'm superior just because I came in and was able to land on top of Clint. I want to feel wanted for once, but if all you're ever gonna do is argue over me, I'm out. I need you to trust me. I'm nothing crazy, and neither is the thing I told Steve and Nat."
Everyone silenced themselves.
"Did she just... get us to stop fighting?" Tony asked in shock.
"That's talent," Rhodey admitted.
A small grin filled your face. Progress.
You saw Steve, Natasha, and Clint make eye contact, and you realized your secret now had one more bearer.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright kid, welcome to my lab!" Tony exclaimed. Bruce, walking next to him, gave Tony a look. "I mean, our lab," Tony corrected, but waved it off like it was nothing.
"Rules: don't touch anything, don't ask questions, don't get in my way," Tony stated.
"But then what am I supposed to do?" you asked.
"Look at you, you already broke a rule," Tony scolded. You just put your arms up in desperation and rolled your eyes. Tony walked around the lab, head held high.
"Nothing interesting ever happens in here," Bruce whispered to you, but the look in his face told differently. "I'll pull you up a chair and you can watch."
You nodded and slowly followed in behind Bruce and took a seat in a chair behind Bruce and Tony, where they discussed technology and math on the screen in the middle of the room. You silently observed, following along with what they were saying.
"This chemical should be able to dissolve anything it touches, but instead it's only able to turn metal into a goo. Not ideal for enemies or dissolving things in general," Bruce started
Isn't that almost the same thing? Nevertheless, you kept listening.
"Have you... checked the chemical formula and equation?" Tony asked
"I can check again," Bruce said, pulling up a new page on the screen. Small numbers and equations and chemical symbols filled the screen, and with Tony and Bruce, began to study it. Something caught your eye.
"It's wrong," you stated in the middle of the silence. Both Bruce and Tony turned around to look at you; Bruce wide-eyed and Tony glaring.
"Look," you said, hopping out of your chair and coming up to the screen. "Mercury has a different number of protons, so when you put down the wrong number, it affects every other element you put in the chemical. It's unbalanced. When you write down the correct number, " you corrected the equation, and the computer solved it automatically, "it all balances out, creating a destructive formula that can dissolve human skin and everything it touches."
You walked over to the chemical serum, putting on protective gloves. You mixed the contents and added in the correct amount of Mercury, which turned to liquid when it touched the mixture. The steam rose into the air, causing you to cough. Bruce pulled you away and put an almost indistructable lid on top of the serum.
"We'll need to find replacement bottles so it doesn't melt down the entire building," Bruce muttered.
However, Tony wasn't paying attention to him at all. Instead, he's looking at you, his head cocked to the side and a finger pointing at you.
"Where did you learn to do that?" Tony asked.
Books. Taught myself.
"School," you lied instead.
"Huh," is all he said in response.
