The sound of a bullet went off, but you never felt the trickle of blood wet your forehead.
"Hey, kid," Tony said, gently tapping your shoulder.
You just wanted to sleep. Your eyes were so heavy.
"C'mon, (Y/N). Wake up. Please," Tony cried, a small crack in his voice.
You slowly opened your eyes, giving the best smile you could, though smiling to wide hurt your burnt skin.
"Oh, thank goodness," everyone sighed in relief.
There, in front of you, lied a dead Fedor Bram and Madame B.
"(Y/N), you look like you used your body as a shield over the serum explosion," Clint joked.
You gave him a look.
"Oh my..." Clint mumbled. "You idiot."
"Guys, we can exchange stories later. We have to get (Y/N) to the medical center NOW. She's only alive because her will is too strong to let go. Soon enough, her body will just give up."
"Right. Cap, you take her to the ship. I need to talk to JARVIS. Clint, start up the engines. Everyone, you guys can either go home or hang out at the tower."
"I have a distress call coming from the Kree," Carol said. "It was an honor to fight with you guys."
Carol zoomed into the atmosphere and was out with a flash of light.
"Anyone else?" Natasha asked.
No one else budged.
"We'll stay until the end of the week," Gamora replied.
"Yeah, you guys have really good food," added Quill.
Nebula glared at him. "Idiot."
Cap did his best to pick you up carefully, but your tender skin screamed with the gentle pressure.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry," Cap apologized.
~~~~~~~~~~
"What... what happened?" you asked.
There was a tube down your throat and tubes blowing air up your nose. Your arms strained as you pushed your self up into a sitting position. Your skin wasn't blistered, but tight. If you moved too quickly in a certain direction, you felt like your skin would tear easily.
"Welcome back," Tony smiled.
"How long was I out for?"
"Oh, just a week," Natasha said, walking in with a glass of water. "We had special creams and a machine that makes new skin cells fast. We've used it on Clint once."
"So... Madame B and Fedor Bram are dead?" you questioned.
"Yeah, it was about time," Bucky added.
"Are people just going to keep walking in?!" you exclaimed.
"JARVIS, you can take the tubes out of her stomach and lungs," Tony yelled.
The 'rubber' tubes disintegrated.
You looked at Tony.
"I made these tubes that are safe for the body and can easily turn into dust that the body can process out of its system. It's safer than pulling them out of your throat again."
"Weird," you commented.
"Being honest, you really had us worried there," Wanda said, coming in with Shuri and Peter Parker.
"Well I'm fine now," you said, trying to get out of bed.
"WAIT!" Bruce said, rushing to your side to take out some needles in your arm. "Take it easy, got it?"
"Yeah, okay," you said.
But before you got to your feet, confusion rippled through your mind.
"Shouldn't those needles had disintegrated when they went into my body?"
"Well," Tony started, "it seems like whatever interaction you had with the serum sucked it out of you. No trace of it there. You still have the super-soldier serum and enhanced instincts, but that's gone."
"Oh, thank goodness," you sighed.
Shuri furrowed her eyebrows. "I thought it was nice to have an extra defense system."
You nodded. "It was, but it's nice to wipe HYDRA out of my life. Besides, it was doing some weird things to my brain. It's nice to be normal."
"Oh, (Y/N), we are all far from that," Natasha smirked.
"What do we do from here?" you asked. HYDRA was gone, now what?
"Trouble always seems to come back," Thor said. "Use this time to rest. Enjoy yourself."
"That's weird," Peter Parker mumbled.
Everyone nodded and agreement.
"Oh! I almost forgot. Before you do some relaxing, Congress wants to meet with you," Tony told you.
Your face paled. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. They just want to know the person who saved their world."
"Public speaking isn't my thing. I've practically lived my whole life in the shadows," you worried.
"Pepper will help you, and they want the rest of the Avengers at the press conference, too."
You sat there, still unsure.
"You're a hero, (Y/N), and the world wants to know you."
~~~~~~~~~~
"Is this your first time on a private plane?" Peter (Unless I put the last name at the end of a 'Peter' name, assume it's Parker) asked.
"It's my first time on any plane besides the Quinjet," you replied.
"This is probably weird for you, how this is all moving so fast," Peter said, offering you a chip from his stash.
You looked around at all the Avengers having little chats on the plane. Steve, Nat, Bucky, and Sam were joking around; Wanda and Clint were talking with Pepper; Bruce and Tony seemed to be having a very in-depth conversation; and Scott and Hope seemed to be having a competition: whose bug could but the most sugar cubes in their tea in one minute. Shuri and T'challa were meeting you there along with Dr. Strange. All the galaxy people had their own things to attend to.
"Yeah, but it's not too bad. You guys are like family to me."
"We're glad to have you in it."
You grinned, taking another chip.
"Have you ever been in a press conference before?" you asked, hoping to get some last-minute tips.
"Nothing too big. I'm always really awkward at them. This is the first time I'm showing my identity at one."
"Nervous?"
"Yes. Definitely," he said, wringing his hands. "But the rest of the Avengers will be there to take the light off of me a bit. You, though," he raised his eyebrows, "good luck out there. A lot of the attention will be on you."
"Gee, thanks."
"But seriously, you'll do fine."
Pepper walked up to you in her pristine white knee-length shirt and blazer. She looked the best out of all of you guys, and she wasn't even really an official Avenger, though she definitely deserved the title of one after the battle with HYDRA.
"You guys are going to kill it! I'll review stuff with you right before the conference. The plan is to grab a bite to eat, go to a hotel to change, and then off to the conference we go! (Y/N), the world is about to know your name. The world is about to know that you're a part of our family."
Keep with it! Just a chapter or two left :)
