Whoa... we're on Chapter 40.
You were about to take a bite out of your pint of ice cream when someone tapped you on the shoulder. You didn't even try to hide your glare as you turned around to look at the person who intruded your 'me' time.
All you really wanted to do was eat ice cream and watch a movie. Your arm was fine now, you just wanted some downtime.
You turned around to find not one but TWO people behind you.
"What do you want?" you asked Peter and Tony, shoving a spoon of ice cream in your mouth.
Two answers were spat out of their mouths at once.
"Do you want to go on night patrol with Mr. Stark and me?" Peter asked.
While Tony said, "Suit up kid. You're going on night patrol."
You slammed the pint of ice cream on the table. "Don't we have the police for that?" you whined.
"Yeah, but we pretty much do their job for them," Peter admitted.
"And you could use a mission that's not HYDRA for once," Tony added.
You'd rather be lazy, but there was no getting out of this one.
"Fine. Let me grab my suit."
~~~~~~~~~~
"You know, next time you need a suit, just let me make it," Stark suggested as you walked into the foyer. "I have a lot of experience."
"Yeah, but Shuri beat you to it," you answered. "Where are we headed tonight?"
"Like I said, just some patrolling," Tony repeated.
"Does anything interesting usually happen?" you asked, adjusting your weaponry.
"Most of the time it's like a bank robbery here or there."
You shrugged. "Sounds easy enough."
You and the guys walked outside.
"Let's head to the roof!" Peter exclaimed.
Tony flipped his mask over his face and his boosters pushed him up while Peter webbed his way to the top.
"Seriously!?" you cried, throwing your hands up in exasperation. "I can't fly!"
"Right. Sorry kid," Tony apologized as he lifted you up to the roof.
"So now we wait?" you asked.
"Looks like we won't have to wait for long," Tony stated. "Listen."
You shut your mouth as you listened for something. Sure enough, you could hear the faith rumbling of a gun.
"Alright kid, climb aboard," Tony said, patting his back. You dug your fingers into a small crevice in his suit and put your feet on a small ledge on the back of his boot.
"Let's go see what this is."
~~~~~~~~~~
"Stay here," Tony instructed you and Peter.
"What? Why?" you protested as Peter pouted. Of all of the people here, you were the least likely to get killed by a bullet.
"Because Parker needs someone to make sure he doesn't get distracted, so in this case, you. I need to focus; there's something bad out there. Also, you're not technically an Avenger yet, so we have to be careful. If something bad happens to you, the press will gobble it up like candy."
You furrowed your eyebrows. "Haven't a lot of bad things happened to me?"
"Yes, but you cover it up really well. But still, I can't risk it."
"So hiding us in a dark alley is the best way to hide us?" Peter asked.
You could practically hear Stark's eyes roll under his mask.
"I'll let you know if I need help."
You crossed your arms. "Fine."
Tony flew off. Neither you or Peter dared to talk. Neither of you wanted to risk a bullet to the head, even if you did have the serum. Especially after you heard Stark's blasters too close for comfort.
Metal clanged to the ground. "(Y/N), you're an Avenger now!" Tony cried.
You perked up. "Wait, seriously?" you grinned.
"Uh, (Y/N), I think that means he needs help," Peter interrupted, putting you on high alert. Maybe Stark was just saying that to get you out of the alley.
You immediately froze when you saw the cold eyes of Bucky.
"Oh come on!" you yelled. "So I blow up a HYDRA base, now I got to deal with the consequences. And they take it out on my friends."
Bucky walked up towards you. He still looked the same - no fancy outfit or mask or messy smoky eye. He still walked the same way. Everything about him was the same except for his cold eyes.
HYDRA was probably controlling him by using the trigger words, using him to get you back. Most likely, alive.
That was why you didn't expect him to choke slam you.
"Bucky, this isn't you!" you gasped, your lungs trying to suck in as much air as you could.
Peter and Tony said patrolling would be easy.
Tony blasted him in the metal arm, knowing it wouldn't kill him. Still, the impact threw him off of you, allowing you to get some air.
Peter swung over to you. "Are you okay?" he asked, trying to assist you as you tried to get into a sitting position.
You nodded, too busy coughing to speak to him.
"Do you know what to do to stop him?"
You looked at him. "If I get close enough to hit him really hard in the head, I should be able to recalibrate his brain. Since we know he couldn't have gone to a HYDRA base, this should be easy to shake out of his head. I can try to talk to him in Russian, too."
"What do Mr. Stark and I need to do ?" he asked.
"Just hold him down."
"Got it!" Parker exclaimed, webbing Bucky's feet, and then having to replace it every five seconds due to Bucky's super strength. Stark made small blasts and even whipped out a bright light to temporarily blind him.
"Bucky!" you yelled, grabbing his face in the most gentle way possible. "Bucky, this isn't you!"
He didn't stop trying to escape.
You sighed. "I really don't want to do this," you said, drawing your hand back into a fist.
You threw your punch as hard and as fast as you could, hitting him in the temple. Bucky fell to his knees and Peter and Tony helped him slowly to the ground.
"He still as a pulse!" Peter assured, a little shaken that it only took you one punch to knock Bucky out.
You glared at him. "I wasn't trying to kill him."
"It probably would have killed me."
"Didn't you catch Bucky's fist during our little Civil War?" Tony asked.
"Oh, yeah!"
You rolled your eyes. "We don't have time for this. We have to get Bucky back to HQ before HYDRA plays any more mind games."
"Who made you in charge?" Tony asked, a little offended that you were giving him orders.
"May I recall that you made me an Avenger a mere 12 minutes ago? Now pick up Bucky. We have some questions to ask him once he wakes up."
