I used Google Translate for part of this, so people who know the French, I apologize if some stuff is wrong.

"Are you sure about this?" Tony said as he prepped the syringe.

Your gut was telling you HECK NO! while your mouth said "Yes."

"Alrighty then. Wanda a Vision, you're on monitoring (Y/N) to make sure the serum doesn't get out of control, though by the time you tell me it will probably be too late..."

Everyone glared at Tony and groaned.

"Look, you're making her nervous," Nat scolded, gesturing to your sweaty hands you were desperately trying to wipe off.

"You don't have to do this, you know," Steve said.

"Yes, I know, I know. I'm doing it, though, so stop trying to talk me out of it."

Tony held the syringe with the glowing serum right next to your arm. You hoped your heart rate wouldn't go off the charts.

Before Tony said anything, he plunged the syringe into your arm.

You clenched your teeth. You didn't remember it being this painful. Maybe it was because HYDRA would wash away all memories of pain, you didn't know.

You gripped the chair to avoid falling off of it.

Voices rang in the background, but a ringing in your ear kept you from responding. You closed your eyes, forcing your chest to move up and down.

"Wanda?" you heard someone ask. You caught a glimpse of her face. Her face was scrunched up and in pain as well. Could she really feel it? Vision glided over to her and supported Wanda by wrapping his arms around her.

"She's in a lot of pain, but I'm not sensing any organ failure. Just pain," Wanda notified the group.

It sure felt like you were gonna die.

Stop it, you reminded yourself. Just because HYDRA forced you to live up to their expectations doesn't mean that you should be weak here. You're capable of this. You've done it multiple times before.

The thick serum slowly pulsed through your veins. Time seemed to slow; the serum was so thick, that it made it nearly impossible to spread through your body. Part of what the SKH gene did was defend against the clotting. So even though it was slow, the serum finally made it's way to the rest of your body.

"Something is going on with her mind," Wanda warned.

Confusion rippled across your face, but you could feel stress explode.

"Oh, come on," you moaned. Was this small dose of the serum seriously gonna give you an anxiety attack?

You tried to block it, but the dreadful memories came back.

"Où est-ce? (where is it?)" you asked the French ambassador, holding a gun to his head.

"Je ne sais pas de quoi tu parles! (I don't know what you are talking about!)" he pleaded, holding his hands above his head. "S'il te plait ne me tue pas! (Please don't kill me!)," he begged, his hands shaking.

You pressed the gun into his temple. "Tu as quelque chose que nous voulons (You have something we want)," you growled.

The man continued to tremble, and realizing he wasn't going to help you, you shot him in the head.

You put your hands against the walls, searching for some sort of secret case. You pushed down on one of the tiles, and sure enough, a small brick slid out. You dug your hand into the compartment, pulling out a document. You weren't given permission to open it, but you knew it had to be important. Otherwise, you wouldn't have had to take out security AND the French ambassador.

The door was suddenly kicked down, and you had no other escape except through the window, which you shattered as you fell from the thirty-story building. You landed on your feet and began to sprint, taking out anyone you had to in order to fulfill your mission.

"---(Y/N)!!"

You blinked a couple of times before the room came into focus. You relaxed your muscles, which you had been tensing the entire time.

"(Y/N)!" Tony yelled again.

"Quel?" you exclaimed.

"Did you just... speak French?" Natasha asked.

You put your sore arms up to your face, wiping off some sweat.

"Yeah... sorry. Just remembered some things during that... adventure," you replied.

You didn't really feel up to talking about this any longer. The serum was pulsing through your veins, so yes, you were a lot more bulletproof, but you were exhausted. Peter, however, didn't get the hint.

"Whoa, how many languages can you speak?" Peter exclaimed.

"I don't know. Enough, that's for sure," you admitted.

"How did you learn them all?" Peter asked.

"Well, HYDRA put this chip in my neck that just loaded me with tons of information and skills and..."

Your face paled as you went up to feel for the chip. If you still had it, HYDRA could take control of your mind any minute and turn you into a master again.

"Don't worry," Tony said. "I noticed the chip when you first came back. We took it out and destroyed it."

"Than how can I still remember all the languages, combat skills, etcetera?" you asked.

"I don't know," Natasha interrupted. "That's why I was so surprised."

"Did you have a chip?" you asked Bucky and Natasha.

They both shook their heads.

"We were both with HYDRA and the Red Room a lot longer, so they were able to teach us the languages. They both weren't as advanced as they are today. They must be really trying to up their game. You must remember them all because of that gene," Bucky said.

"I think we're all forgetting that (Y/N) is also just a smart person in general," Natasha said. "Remember how she came into Stark's party all confident? Heck, she's been taking care of herself and defending herself for a while now. At the party, she held her own when HYDRA attacked. Stark, she even completed the serum. She might just remember the languages and skills. HYDRA doesn't and will never define who (Y/N) is."

Natasha had just dropped a pretty epic speech, and by the look of Steve's face, he was pretty impressed too.

You grinned.

Maybe Natasha was right.

But that didn't mean that you could avenge the people that you killed while HYDRA controlled you. Just this time, you were gonna do it your way. HYDRA didn't control your life anymore. Neither did the SKH gene. You did. And you were going to get rid of those scars.

"Well, this has been a heck of a day," Tony remarked. "I'm taking tomorrow off. Anyone want to get some shwarma with me?"

"I will!" Thor exclaimed, dropping his hammer on a nearby table, causing stuff to spill everywhere.

"Okay... just clean that up first," Tony said. "Tomorrow at noon, meet by the front of the Avengers building."

"I'm down for a day off," you admitted.

The rest of the Avengers nodded.

You made eye contact with Wanda and Natasha, who both had a lightbulb go off at the same time. They looked at each other for confirmation, grinned, then looked at you.

"Sure," you said, even though you had no idea what they were planning.
