America and I go down the stairs, arms linked, with my arm supporting most of her weight, into the library where we find Georgia and August. We both share our greetings and sit down.
"Let's get to business," August says.
But then America interrupts and asks," But who do we have here.?" She asks, gesturing to the boy sitting directly beside Georgia.
"Meet Marid Illéa," Georgia says.
As America and Georgia talk and play with little Marid, August turns to me.
"Sorry Maxon, but I think we need help out there. We don't want Marid to get hurt." August says.
What does he mean?
August slowly says, " I think we need the caste system again.."
America heard that brief sentence and walks over.
"Inhale Maxon, then exhale." She says calmly, placing a delicate hand on my shoulder.
"Will, that be a problem?" August asks.
Yes, it will August, yes it will.
"Maxon., buddy, are you alright?"
I yell in frustration, " Yes, August that would be a problem! I can't just destroy the caste system then push them back in people's faces! It's too much to handle."
They took my sick wife out of bed for this?
"But you"re King..." August replies
" I know I am, but I have other things to do."
" Who cares about those? MOVE them aside."
My anger rises inside me.
" I do, you sh*thead."
All I remember after that was a missed swing to my face. I felt the guards pulling us away. I tried to punch August in the face. I saw America run Georgia and Marid out of the palace and America slowly walk upstairs.
I did something terribly wrong.
