I knew America had a surprise for me. Every time she was in the bathroom, she was hiding something. I could tell. She changed what she wore. She never, ever wore tight dresses, just flowy ones. She didn't wear heels, which I knew she wouldn't anyway (she basically brought pants and comfortable clothes into the palace).

As I went downstairs, there she was. But she did something peculiar. She let her hair down. Her hair was cascading down her back like a beautiful, fiery waterfall reaching her waist.

As I reached her. I asked, "Did you invite your mother just to make me smile?"

She responded "Maybe. But it doesn't matter. We're all here for you".

I could tell she wanted her father to be here for today. She had looked to the ceiling more than once and was blinking back tears.

We walked to the ballroom where she gave me a tour around. Then she disappeared as if she was swallowed by the crowd. I stared at Aspen until he finished dancing with Lucy. I walked over to him.

"Now, isn't it the birthday king himself. Happy Birthday, Maxon.."

Then I was pulled outside by the one and only America. "I have a surprise for you. But it won't come until nine months."  She whispered, a small smile creeping across her face. We sat down on the closest bench.

"What-"

How stupid I felt.. All of those loose dresses, "fevers." in the morning, feeling sick... she was pregnant.

"Are we really going to have a baby?" I ask, placing my hand gently on America's stomach.

"Yes, Maxon, we are."

She smiles, and all my worries fade away. I suddenly burst into tears.

"We did it." I look up, and America's face is also covered with trails of tears.

"Yes, Maxon, we did it. We're going to have an heir."

"Our own child." I murmur.

We sit there, holding each other in beautiful silence until I let go.

"Do you know the gender yet?" I wonder, suddenly curious.

"No, it's too early."

"Alright," I say,

Then it starts raining.

The best birthday ever.
