James lays his head down on the table, his eyes drooping heavily as Professor Slughorn began the lesson. A slam on the table awakes him with a startle; he pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose with an automatic eye roll once he sees Abigail glaring at him. He slumps back into his seat, resting his chin in the palm on his hand.

"Potter," Abigail hisses.

His eyes shift over at her with little expression. He raises an unamused eyebrow. "What?" he mutters.

"If you fail this group lesson I will personally hex you into oblivion."

"It's hot when Evans yells at me. When you do it, you sound like my dead Aunt Krystal."

Abigail scrunches her nose with a low growl. She holds her quill with a deathly grip, peering at Snape's textbook for the answers. Her eyes wander over Snape's shoulder to see Remus hunched over his own work. Just beside him, Sirius is flicking small crumpled pieces of parchment at Lily. Remus throws his quill at Sirius in an attempt to make him stop, but Sirius only throws the quill at Lily.

"Black I swear!" Lily mumbles threateningly.

"What?" Sirius asks innocently. "It's not like this lesson matters."

"It does if we want to get a good grade in this class."

"Is that all you ever think about? There's more to life than school. Right Lupin?"

Remus opts not to respond.

"Can you please just focus?" Lily asks curtly.

"Fine. What do you want me to do?"

"For one, stop throwing things at me." Sirius drops the parchment in his hand. "And you can get the ingredients ready. Avery...you can just supervise." The Slytherin grunts a response, and they take it as an okay. "Remus and I can prep the cauldron."

Sirius hops off his stool, clutching his book in hand as he walks over to the back of the classroom. "Blood..." he mumbles to himself. His fingers skim over the labels poorly taped to the glass tubes when a hand reaches over and picks up a vile. "Hey I need that-" He shuts his mouth upon seeing the blonde haired vixen swirling the tube in her hand.

"And I need you to back off, Black," Abigail threatens.

"What are you talking about Amelia?"

"Abigail," she quickly corrects. "And I'm talking about you and Remus. I see you two are close and I can't figure out why. I know that Remus has better judgement than to be friends with you."

"Well he's dating you, so clearly he doesn't have much good judgement."

Abigail sneers, folding her arms in front of her small frame. "I don't know what you're up to, Black, but stay away from Remus."

"I don't know what you think I'm 'up to', but why don't you mind your own business and stay out of mine? Okay, Aubrey?" Sirius nicks the small tube from her hands and storms past her. He all but slams the vile into the small holder arising a suspicious look from both Lily and Remus. "What?" he snaps.

"Nothing..." Lily says grabbing the vile.

"You seem a little tense," Remus comments.

"Maybe - hear me out. Just taking a wild guess it's because your girlfriend just tried to threaten me."

"My - Abigail?"

"No, your other girlfriend."

"Why would she threaten you?"

"Because she's an annoying twat who wishes she could replace the stick up her ass with a dick."

Lily gasps, cupping her hand over her mouth to muffle the laughter trying to escape.

"Sirius," Remus warns.

"What?"

"I know you and Abigail don't get along -"

"Don't forget James and Peter."

Across the room, Peter is doing all the work while the fellow Slytherin's sleep around him, and James is trying to balance his wand upright in the palm of his hand.

Remus sighs, gritting his teeth irritably. "Just stop." His hands grip the edge of the table to balance himself as he hangs his head. It feels as if a wrecking ball was inside his head trying to break out, and every bone in his body was doing its best to hold together.

Lily flashes a concerned look, resting her hand over Remus'. "Are you feeling alright, Remus?" she asks comfortingly.

"Yeah," Remus mutters. "Let's just finish this."

Sirius' finger taps over the small box as he watches Remus across the dorm where he and Peter are playing a game of wizard's chess. Remus' usual gaunt appearance was considerably worsening since Potions class. Sirius trail his finger over the row until it lands on the small circle just beside November 5th.

"Hey Sirius," James says as he pries off his robes. "I was thinking we should go down that passage we found yesterday tonight. See where it leads."

"The one by the one eyed witch?" Sirius asks. James nods eagerly. "Yeah. Sounds cool."

"Anyone coming to dinner?"

"I'll come," Peter says mid yawn.

"But we're playing a game!" Remus interjects.

Peter surveys the board before stating, "Queen to G-eight." Remus watches as Peter's queen glides across the board. "Checkmate." Peter scrambles to his feet and slips on his trainers. "Next time, Moony."

Remus groans, getting up from the floor and pushing aside the board. "Bloody hell," he groans.

The door shuts moments after, both James and Peter's laughs trailing off. Sirius sets aside his calendar to sit upright.

Remus picks up the chess board, watching the tiny pieces stumble around. He slams the board down in a fury when he shivers. A cold sensation runs up his arms causing the hair on the back of his neck to stick up.

"Remus," Sirius whispers. His voice is husky and hot against his skin. "You need to calm down."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Remus states shakily.

Sirius' hand trails up Remus' arm until it's resting against his neck. His finger traces small circles at the nape of his neck. Remus stands still, his hands gripping the desk while trying to maintain his breathing. Wet lips attach to his collarbone, sucking hard causing his knees to go weak. Sirius flicks his tongue across Remus' skin as his hands reach around Remus' front and over his abdomen.

Remus lets out a guttural moan, leaning back into Sirius' body. "Sirius," he whispers. "I can't."

Sirius stops, his lips ghosting over Remus' ear. "Who has to know?"
