Peter lays on his stomach in the middle of the common room drawing out the second floor on a spare piece of parchment before translating it onto the real map. His knees are bent as he swings his feet back and forth while working. The tune of a Weird Sisters song plays in the back of his mind, keeping him completely focused.
Voices giggling grow louder until four girls appear in the common room: Hestia, Lily, Alice, and Mary. They are wrapped in scarlet and gold head to toe - showing off their Gryffindor pride.
"Hi Peter," the girls chorus passing him by.
Peter glances briefly to acknowledge them but scrambles to his feet in an instant upon seeing the gorgeous fawn brown haired, hazel eyed beauty amongst the four. "Hi Mary," Peter chokes out with a faint smile.
"What are we, chopped liver?" Alice whispers to Lily.
"What're you working on?" Mary asks motioning to the parchment sprawled across the carpet.
Peter shrugs, kicking his quill aside. "Oh just stuff for the guys."
"Are you coming to the quidditch match today?" He can only nod, redness creeping up his neck. "I'll save you a seat."
"Sounds good." He swallows the lump in his throat, waving as the girls leave. The second the portrait closes, he leaps into the air pumping a fist up. "Holy shit!" Falling back onto the couch, his heart thumps to a new beat.
"What happened to you Pete?" Sirius asks walking down the stairs. He eyes Peter completely stricken on the couch with hearts in his eyes.
"Mary MacDonald happened," Peter sighs.
"Pretty bird that one."
Remus double checks to make sure the dormitory door is shut since last time James' owl threw a fit in the common room when they left the door open. He shuffles down the stairs wrapping his scarf twice around his neck.
"So are you going to ask her out?" Sirius' voice asks. Remus slows to a stop on the stairs.
"I don't know," Peter responds.
"Relationships are a load of bull, to me. All the expectations are so controlling and demanding."
"What about marriage? Surely you want to get married when you're older."
"I don't know, why should I tie myself down with a stupid ring around my finger?"
"I think it's sweet. Promising to be together forever."
"Well Pete I think your someone to be together forever is waiting for you at the pitch."
Remus rolls his head loosely before appearing in the room. "Hey guys," he says, "Ready to go?"
"I'll just go put the stuff for the map away," Peter says gathering his things. "I'll be right back."
"Don't forget to close the dorm door!" Sirius shouts as the small boy runs up the stairs. He chuckles, leaning against the arm of the couch with crossed arms. "Are you sure you have enough layers there, Moony?"
The use of his nickname surprises Remus. "You'll wish you had two sweatshirts and three pairs of socks on when you're freezing your arse off in the stands, Snuffles," he spits back.
Sirius throws his head back, "Of all the nicknames Peter could've given me I get stuck with Snuffles. Not even something cool! Maybe if I don't say anything he'll have forgotten about it."
"Ready!" Peter shouts stumbling down the stairs. "Moony, Snuffles."
