The Night of the Full Moon
~What Really Happened~
Remus ties the strings of his cloak, preparing to head down to the Whomping Willow. The boys were mucking around somewhere and Remus couldn't help but feel a little envious. These nights plagued him and would continue to do so forever. At times it seemed like his "furry little problem" would divide them, but these nights only made them closer. He knew they would join him shortly. Even Sirius, who hadn't talked to him in almost two weeks now. Inside, it was killing him; he decided that their petty argument needed to end, and that they would talk in the morning.
The full moon almost at peak, buried beneath clouds, giving Remus opportunity to hurry before it got too dark. Departing down the stairs, the sound of wrapping crinkling made him freeze. He peers his head around the corner ever so slightly, relieved to see it was only Abigail. Her eyes shift in his direction as he appears in the room. She stands to meet him, crushing the wrapper of her candy beneath her foot. "Remus," she says hopefully.
"Abigail," Remus replies.
"I've been meaning to talk to you."
"I don't have time to talk. Nor do I want to." Remus attempts to walk around her, but she steps in front. "Excuse me, Abigail, I have to go."
"Promise me we'll talk about it in the morning? Please?"
"I can't do this. We broke up, and there's nothing you can do that would change my mind."
Abigail cups her hands around his cheeks, pulling his lips onto hers. The feeling is cold, like two strangers kissing for the first time. There is no comfort. No familiarity. It takes no more than a second for Remus to pull away, wiping the thick sparkly lip gloss she always wore off in disgust. "What the hell?" he growls.
"The spark is still there! I felt it, you did too!"
"No, I didn't!" Remus throws his hands up, noticing the darkening sky outside. "Just accept it and move on, please! Now, if you'll excuse me."
Remus storms away hastily, leaving nothing but the fire to accompany Abigail. She flops onto the couch, twisting open another piece of candy angrily. Who did he think he was? There was no possible way that Remus preferred Sirius Black over herself. She pops the acidic candy into her mouth, steam blowing out of her ears.
Time ticks by, unbeknownst to Abigail, when voices augment by growing closer outside the portrait. She snatches her empty wrappers in one scoop, fleeing to the girls staircase just as James, Peter, and Sirius enter the common room.
"I've got to go talk to Remus," Sirius tells them. Remus was Sirius' constant thought, every day, no matter how mad they might've been at each other. It needed to come to an end. He had to tell Remus how he feels.
"What for?" James asks.
"I just need to. I'll probably head out before you guys. I'm just going to get my cloak."
"I'm kind of hungry," Peter comments.
"We were just in the kitchens," James states.
"Yeah, but I burned the calories on the walk back." The boys laugh, heading up to their dorm.
A lightbulb sparks in Abigail's mind. She runs up the remainder of stairs, slipping into her dorm room as quietly as possible. Everyone's hangings were closed off, but Lily's curtains starts to shift around. Abigail crawls into her bed holding a hand over her mouth. Once the room was dead silent again, she pokes her head out of the hangings. It was the same as before. Abigail scrapes her hand blindly along the floor until she grabs her cloak, exiting the dorm as quietly as she entered.
