i sighed. she needs to know..

hongjoong: "one night, i was hanging out with the 7 boys, and seonghwa's girlfriend, named jessica. jessica lee. but she went by jessi. we were all hanging out in our home in the living room. we were playing truth or dare. i was sitting in between jessi and san. i left the game and went into the kitchen because it was my turn to make dinner. as i was making dinner, i had to use the bathroom really badly. i left and didn't realize i left the stove on at the highest number, i don't know why i put it all the way at 10, but i did. i was in the bathroom when i heard screaming coming from the living room. i quickly went out to see what was going on."

i sighed. "fire. the kitchen was on fire. seonghwa and wooyoung were trying to put it out then the alarm turned on. i quickly ran over there and took some cloth or something and tried putting it out. once i did that, san tried pulling me back because i was too close. then the fire spread everywhere. i got trapped in the fire for a second. and in just that second, i got scars. that's how i got these scars."

i paused the story and pulled up my sleeve to show her a huge scar across my whole arm.

hongjoong: "and this scar on my eyebrow here? that was also from the fire."

sohee: "oh my..it must've hurt."

hongjoong: "not much, it just burnt my skin, that's all."

sohee: "did you just say 'that's all'?"

hongjoong: "well-"

sohee: "lord.. but how'd jessica die?"

hongjoong: "the fire later spread too much, so i escorted everyone to safely leave the house. i was the last to leave, so when we all got outside, i started counting everyone. i counted and saw there were only 7 people in front of me when there should've been 8. that's when i realized— the only girl with us, was trapped in the fire and none of us realized. her boyfriend seonghwa was busy trying to put out the fire along with me and mingi, so that's why he couldn't focus on jessi."

sohee: "o-oh.. that's quite the story. but why did seonghwa say you killed his girlfriend?"

hongjoong: "he thinks i purposely left her there. in the fire."

sohee: "why would he think that!?"

hongjoong: "because he thought i liked her. he always had the feeling that i wanted his girl, when i didn't."

sohee: "oh.. so he blamed it all on you?"

hongjoong: "basically. but it is my fault for not checking that i got everyone out. i'm the one who killed her."

sohee: "how'd she get trapped in the fire anyway?"

hongjoong: "that— no one knows. but!"

sohee: "bUT WHAT?"

hongjoong: "i have this feeling. i remember that the only person standing next to her was mingi.. so i had a feeling he might've pushed her or something, that he had a grudge against her that the rest of us didn't know about. but i shrugged off that thought because it's mingi. he would never try to kill someone. i know him too well."

sohee: "not to get on your nerves or anything, but let me say this one thing. some people aren't who they seem to be. you might think you know them the best and your their closest friend. but they might have secrets. secrets that you wouldn't know about. they'd hide horrible things from you. either they do it for your own good, or they do it for themselves. later you'll end up just being there. you'll be hurt. you'll be shocked and disappointed. you'd blame yourself, you'd wanna die, you'd wanna kill that person, you'd be depressed. sometimes, the truth hurts, hongjoongie.. and sometimes it's best you shouldn't know the truth."

hongjoong: "well— thanks for the speech, sohee." i smiled as she returned the smile.

jason: "w-what?"

we both quickly turned our heads to face jason.

jason: "kim hongjoong.. you've hid all this from me? you lied to me."
