It had been three weeks since the heavy talk Steph and I had. I'd been working extra shifts since the two were always arguing and didn't want the children around the violence. Ayesha was in the process of moving out and also pleading with Steph to stick around. Today was no different.

"Stephen I'm pregnant. This couldn't be a worst time to spring this on me. And I love you. Why are you doing this?"

Steph sighed heavily and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. They'd been having the same conversation for 2 weeks.

"Don't you love me?"

"I did, yes."

Riley, Ryan, and I were watching The Lion King in the theatre room. Something we did often now, to drown out the noise. I could still faintly hear what was being said.

"Did? Were you cheating on me? This is all so abrupt. I don't deserve this."

"You sit on your ass all day and live a lavish life. You have two children that rarely interact with you because you're just lazy. You lack drive and motivation because you feel like I'm going to do everything for you. I'm not. You may not have had to work but your job simply as a mother is to raise your children. I had to hired Sasha to be their mom."

I covered my mouth quickly.
In no way did I feel like a mother to the girls. I spent a ridiculous amount of time with them, gave them whatever they needed or wanted, and soothed almost every fever, but I was in no way their mother. It was my job and I've honestly grown attached to the girls in a way.

"What?! To be their mother?"
I could hear silence then the door flew open.
"Sasha were gonna have to let you go."

"L-Let me go?"

I was still shocked from the earlier comment so this just added to that.

"Yes. You've been a great help but I need to spend more time with my children. After all I am their mother."

I quickly nodded and stood to my feet.
"Sasha, sit down. You're not fired."

Steph stood in the doorway shaking his head. I still stood, I had no idea what to do.

"We're not doing this in front of the girls. Come back downstairs and speak to the only other person speaking to you, me."

"No. She needs to leave."
She stepped towards me

I discreetly pulled out my phone and began recording just in case I had to defend myself. Hitting a pregnant woman looks bad in court.

"This bitch needs to leave, these are my kids. Hiring her and keeping her around is making you leave me. If she wasn't here you wouldn't be doing this."

"Don't curse in front of them. Sasha please take them in the man cave please."

I nodded towards the girls. They left the room and went into the room at the end of the hall, the man cave.

Once they were gone I gathered my things, saved the recording and stepped around Ayesha.

"Ayesha it's time for you to leave. We talked about this and you agreed that you'd be gone by 3pm today. It's currently 5pm."

"I'm not leaving my house, my husband, or my kids."

"You agreed on paper. If I call the cops you will be escorted off the property and possibly spend a night in jail."

She huffed and left the house.
I had made my way in the room with the girls. I set them up to play then walked out into the hallway to Steph.

"I apologize for the way she spoke to you. At this point she's grasping at straws, looking for someone to blame."

"It's okay. Are you okay?"

He looked up at me from looking down.

"Yeah. I just thought this would be a bit easier. My heart is broken, last week when we spoke to our lawyers and drew up an agreement she practically gave the girls away to me."

"What do you mean?"

"I figured it would be I'd have the girls during the week and she's take them car the weekend but she only wanted visitation."

I furrowed my eyebrows, how could anyone not love those little girls. I was in love with them and I was just the help.

"I'm so sorry Steph."
I gripped his hand in mine before hugging his arm
"I'm always here to help."

"I'm glad I have you. The girls especially, they need you."

We hugged for a small while longer before I pulled away.

"Steph, you said you hired me to be their mother. Is that true?"

"Not literally, but I hired you to do the things a mother would do with their children. Spend time with them, take them on adventures, make sure they're okay, stuff like that. I hope I didn't place too much responsibility on you."

"No, no, it's fine. I love the girls."

We shared warm eye contact. He wrapped his arms around me and rocked us for a while.

"Thank you so much."
We connected eyes once more. I slowly stood on the tip of my toes to reach his face but he pulled away.

"You can head home for the day if you want to."
With that he pulled away and joined the girls in the man cave.
