Thomas didn't understand. He was so excited to finally kiss Newt and he just... backed away. With no explanation.
Newt was looking at him like a lost puppy but Thomas was too focused on why. Why did he stop? He was soo close to getting what he wanted and all of a sudden, he moves away? It didn't make sense and the brunette wanted to smack himself for doing it.
"Thomas? Are you alright?" Newt asks, placing his hand over Thomas, making the other boy flinch and moves it away.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Thomas mumbles before quickly exiting the treehouse, leaving a sadden and confused Newt behind.
Newt didn't know what was going on. It was so unusual and out of character of Thomas to do that. But after seeing that, Newt wasn't sure about going through this again. Thomas pushing him away made him feel just as useless and isolated like before. Blowing out the candles and clearing everything away, all of this made Newt reconsider if Thomas was really worth all this.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" Thomas screamed at himself as he hits his head against the apartment door.
He felt like a complete idiot for leaving Newt behind like that but he didn't know what else to do. He was so confused about what he had done that he had to leave before anything else would happen. All he could think about now was Newt's reaction, how lost he looked when the brunette pulled away. He could only imagine what the blonde was going through - he didn't want him to feel alone and yet, that's exactly what he did.
"Hey hey hey, what's with all the noise?" Thomas hears his sister come in, her voice all croaky as if she had just woken up. By loose strands of hair hanging around her face and her being dressed in her pyjamas, it was clear that Thomas had woken her up.
"Sorry T, I didn't mean to wake you."
"It's okay. Is everything alright?" she asks, rubbing her eyes. She could see the saddened look on his face and instantly, pulls him into a hug.
"How about we make some hot chocolate and talk about this?"
"With peppermint?"
"You know it." she laughs, placing her arm around his shoulders as she leads them both into the kitchen.

"Newt?" Minho calls as he turns to see a broken-hearted blonde at the door, his sore eyes looking at the Asian.
"Dude, what happened?" he asks as Newt came to sit next to him, not even facing his best friend anymore.
"I don't want to talk about it. Can we play some COD?" the blonde mumbled as he picks up the controller next to Minho.
"Yeah of course."
The familiar sounds of the video game played in their ears as the menu appeared on the TV but Minho was too distracted. He knew that Thomas had taken Newt out on a date (no matter how many times the blonde would deny it, Minho could tell it was a date), but he thought that everything would go well, especially after all the effort he heard the brunette had put in.
He definitely needed to talk about this with Newt later but right now, it was time to shoot some soldiers.
