Newt was in complete shock with what Thomas had done. His mind was going crazy; on one hand, he wanted to keep kissing him but he also wanted to back off because he didn't think that this was the best way to around this. Yes, he still loved Thomas but that didn't have to mean that they had to jump back into their relationship. The blonde knew he had to lie to get the best result for both of them but he also knew that Thomas would get badly hurt for what he was planning to do. He was torn on what to do, yet he understood that either scenario would have consequences. It just depended on who it would affect.
Realising that their lips were still attached, Newt backs up, pushing Thomas off him gently. He could feel his soft brown eyes looking at him in confusion and Newt could feel how much it's hurting Thomas but he needed to keep focused.
"Newt? Is everything okay?"
"Why did you do that?" he mutters in a whisper, facing the floor. The blonde felt that if he were to look at the boy in front of him that he would just... melt.
"Because I love you." Thomas sighs, using his fingers to pull Newt's face up to face him.
"I've always loved you, Newt. And I am so sorry for everything that happened. What I said wasn't right—"
"Yeah, you're right. It wasn't, but you still said it."
"I know and, I'm sorry okay? I'm sorry is all I can say, Newt. I'm just... sorry."
Newt was obviously sympathetic with Thomas; the brunette never tends to hurt anyone, he is practically harmless. But Newt couldn't forget the words that were said.
"I told you, I need to see her!"
"And I need you here!"
The two boys had been arguing this for hours now. Newt's sister Sonya had fallen ill and he had wanted to see her but Thomas wouldn't let her. He would make the blonde worry by saying that he would die without him, reaching drastic measures all to make Newt stay. And Newt fell for it. Every time. He knew that Thomas was becoming too controlling in their relationship but he was too blinded with the beauty of his boyfriend, that his eyes became full of love and hid away everything else.
But this was Newt's sister. He wouldn't let Thomas drive her away.
"Thomas, no. I'm going to see Sonya. And you can't stop me." he says as he walks up to the door.
"She can look after herself! She's an orphan, she's been doing it her whole life!" Thomas moans at him, which made Newt freeze in his spot.
"What did you just say?" he spoke through gritted teeth as he marched right up to Thomas.
Newt was beyond furious. He couldn't believe that Thomas could say such a thing. He told the brunette in confidence about his childhood: how he and his younger sister lost their parents at a young age and had to fend for themselves. Newt would have to work three jobs just so they could run gas, electricity and heat in their shitty hole of an apartment. And the fact that Thomas had the nerve to bring it up, especially after how hard Newt worked to prevent himself being labelled as an orphan, it made him want to punch Thomas in the face.
"You heard me. Sonya this, Sonya that. She doesn't deserve you, Newt. I do."
"No. You don't. Because you calling her orphan means that I am the same. You know that I hate that word, you promised me that you would never use it and you did! You know, I can't even stand to look at you right now so leave."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes, I'm fucking serious, Thomas. Get out of my house!" Newt screams at him as he violently grabs Thomas and drags him outside the apartment before slamming the door.
"Sorry doesn't always cut it, Tommy."
"What can I do? I love you and want to be with you. We can fix this relationship, I promise." Thomas encourages, holding his hands and placing soft kisses on the front of his hands.
"There's no use, it's much too late. Thomas, I love you, really I do... but only as a friend. I want to mend our friendship. For the sake of Teresa and Minho."
He felt his hands drop to his side as Thomas lets go. Seeing the brunette with his eyes brimming with tears and his lips shaped in a frown almost broke Newt, but he knew that them being in a relationship was perfectly wrong.
"Yeah... that seems fair." Thomas sniffs, wiping away any tears that landed on his cheeks. "I'll talk to you soon, yeah?"
Newt nods as he watches the boy that was once the love of his life walks away from him, leaving him alone in his bedroom. It wasn't easy to leave everything they had but he knew he had to. They knew that they were perfectly wrong for each other so they had to leave each other, no matter how hard it was to leave.
Newt knew that what he did was best for everyone, but was it what was best for him and Thomas?
