Taehyung woke up early and begged his parents to let him stay home so he could be at the hospital with you. After much begging and many puppy dog eyes and pouts, they both agreed. They would also take the morning off to go see you. Taehyung spent some time making your favorite food to bring to you. Although he was disheartened by what happened last night, as he feels every time he thinks about how you're in pain, he felt relieved knowing you would wake up soon and play games with him again.
He practically jumped out of the car once it was parked and skipped all the way to the corridor. A few nurses had to tell him to calm down but would giggle because of how ridiculously good looking he is, especially when he gives his famous boxy smile. They had seen him around a lot because you used to stay at the hospital for an extended amount of time. It was unfortunate for you but very fortunate for them to get to see him.
Taehyung turned the corner and his smile turned sour when he spotted a familiar figure sitting outside. Part of Taehyung wanted to ignore him and go inside your room, but his annoyance couldn't be contained. Namjoon heard loud footsteps and glanced up to meet Taehyung's raging eyes. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I-I just came to check up on her." Namjoon answered.
"Why?" Taehyung asked again. "Did you think you can get more money out of us if you pretend to be so caring?"
"What are you talking about?" Namjoon asked out of pure confusion. Ever since getting to know you more, he had forgotten about the money. "I really do care about her and I just want her to be okay."
Taehyung seemed to have been more bothered by this answer. "Listen, I don't like you, alright? If you weren't her tutor, I would have kicked you out of our house a long time ago. If you know what's good for you, leave right now. Focus on being her tutor only."
Normally Namjoon would back off because he hates confrontation. But somehow, he couldn't do that right now. "No, I won't leave. Yes, she is my student but she is also my friend and I will stay here until she wakes up."
Taehyung clenched his jaws and pushed his hair back, something he learned from Jimin. It was growing long, just the way you like. "If you hurt her in any way, I will kill you." he warned. Namjoon said nothing until he saw your parents. They were surprised to see him but also grateful that he cares about you enough to visit.
"You really didn't have to come." your mother said, giving him a tight hug. Her body weight shifted on his and he felt how exhausted she must have been.
"My mother is at a hospital near by. I just wanted to check up on Y/N first."
"You're too kind." your father said, patting Namjoon's shoulder. Behind them, Taehyung scoffed with arms crossed. When the nurse signaled that visiting hours has started, Taehyung and Namjoon secretly fought for who would open the door first. Being taller with more body muscles, Namjoon succeeded. But Taehyung was the first to grab a seat right next to your bed. Namjoon wouldn't have fought him on that anyways, the area is reserved only to family by an unsaid rule.
You had already woken up a few hours ago, but got bored so you went back to sleep. It did scared you to see the unfamiliar room alone, but it wasn't the first time. At the sound of people chattering, your eyes fluttered open. Taehyung noticed first and jumped out of his seat.
"Y/N, you're awake!" he exclaimed. He exhaled out of relieved.
"Hey Tae," you said weakly. "Hi eomma, hi appa, hi-" You thought your eyes were messing with you. Or else why would he be here.
"Hey Y/N," Namjoon said while taking a step forward. "How are you feeling?"
"I-I feel fine. A little hungry but overall fine." you chuckled. Namjoon laughed along with you but stopped when no one else was laughing. The atmosphere grew increasingly more tensed. "Why so serious?" you asked the room. Your parents looked at each other with anxious eyes, not knowing what to say.
"I can leave." Namjoon offered. He headed for the door but your father spoke up.
"No, Namjoon, please stay. I think it's time you know." He took his glasses off and rubbed his temples. Namjoon stood in place, preparing for the news. "We won't beat around the bush anymore."
"Appa," you began, not wanting him to say anything because then it will solidify your fate.
"Sweetie, you're getting more and more sick. This tumor is eating you alive and we don't have anymore options."
"Tumor?" Namjoon repeated. It was a bitter word that recalled so many bad memories with his mother. It was a word he never wanted to hear again or have it happen to anyone, especially someone he cares about. He glanced up at you, he only found regret and embarrassment in your eyes.
"I have Schwannoma neurofibrosarcoma." you admitted loudly. "There's a tumor growing in my spine, my chances of survival on treatment is 50/50."
"Why aren't you on treatment then?" he asked, sounding more hurt and angry than he had intended. Deep down he knew it was something serious, but he didn't think it would be life threatening. Once again, his heart was torn at the thought of not seeing you.
"I don't want people to remember me as this sick girl. If I'm gonna die, I would want to remain myself." you answered. Taehyung winced at the mention of you dying, he squeezed your hand tighter.
"You're not dying. I won't let you." he declared.
"Yes, I know, Tae." you smiled.
"At any rate, your father and I have decided that you should stay home permanently."
"What? No, you said I could still go to school!" you yelled.
"That was before your condition got worse." your father interrupted. "I'm sorry but this is the only way to keep you safe. Namjoon, I understand that this is sudden and if you can't work as her tutor full-time, it's alright, I'll hire someone else in addition-"
"No!" Namjoon interjected, then cleared his throat at the sudden outburst. "I mean, my classes are at night anyways so I would love to stay with Y/N full-time if you'd let me."
"Y/N, are you okay with that?" Taehyung asked. His eyes begged you to say no. But you wouldn't want another person to enter the picture and get dragged into this messed up situation.
"I'm okay with it. Thank you, Namjoon."
"Great. We should talk to Dr. Jung about possible options for the future." you mother said. "Taehyung, why don't you come with us?"
He shook his head. "No, I want to stay here with Y/N."
"Tae Tae," you began. "I need my brother to talk to Dr. Jung. You'll know what's best for me, better than eomma and appa."
He sighed, then nodded his head. As he passed the door, his shoulder bumped into Namjoon's, another male dominance thing. When they closed the door, Namjoon took a seat next to your bed.
"Are you mad?" you asked.
"Yes."
"I'm sorry. I should have told you, but I didn't want you to look at me as if I was something abnormal."
"I would never. And even if I can't do anything, I could have been a better friend to you."
"You're trying."
"If I hadn't came and heard it from your family, would you ever tell me?"
"Probably not. I didn't want to make it a big deal. During your time together as my tutor, maybe nothing will happen. Then I'll die and you'll have forgotten about me. It's better that way." A small gasp escaped your mouth when you felt him grabbing your hand. It was warm and incredibly tender. The touch held so much weight of concerned and care. When you looked at him, he was already looking back at you.
"Do you want me to forget you?"
"Not anymore." you answered quietly.
"I could never forget you." He shook his head, "Never ever."
