Around 7 years passed and I was now 14.

"Happy birthday Veronica!" Garrett laughed happily.

I sat down in my chair with a plop and dished out pie for Garret and I. The cherrie mush stuck to the knife as I cut through a layer of crust and into the red cherry filling.

"I was thinking you could try unlocking your elemental magic tonight! If you have one that is." Garrett said.

"I'm just a 14 year old! Most people unlock their element at 16. Why do you think I would be any different?" I argued

He laughed. "Veronica... you had super speed as a 7 year old, you could beat me, a well trained swordsman, at the age of 10, something tells me you can do this..."

I thought about it for a moment. "Well there's no harm in trying I guess."

Garrett took me far away enough from the cottage so that I wouldn't accidentally brake something.

"Focus... now repeat after me! Arazaba..." he started.

"Arazaba livu te ouvrir." I shouted before he could finish. Vines grew up my legs and at first I struggled to break free but quickly realized they had no harmful intentions.

"Haha as expected, you were able to do it." He looked down at the vines. "Although I expected something more like fire or water..."

I was disappointed too. It would have been so cool to be able to create bubbles of water or set things on fire. I swear I'm not an arsonist! The vines quickly shrunk back into the ground as if they were never there.

"Well I'm still proud of you!" He smiled. "Being able to unlock it this early just goes to show that you will do great things."

I highly doubted that since I would only ever be able to be a Botanist or throw rocks at people. I trudged back to the house still depressed by the results. I remember reading in a book that if you were born with small mana reserves then it was as good as never having any mana to begin with. No matter what element you had, it would be reduced to no more than a parlor trick. On the contrary, if you had a large enough mana reserve, you could create fireballs or water entrapment bubbles, or winds that could throw an enemy 10 ft away! Even if I had a large mana reserve though, all I could do is throw heavy rocks and stuff. Bummed out from today's results, I trudged up to my room mumbling that I wasn't hungry for dinner. I closed my eyes as I nodded off to sleep.

"You poor child." A soft voice echoed through my head.

"Who's there!" I shouted.

"I am the one who brought you to this world after I took pity on you and your last life. I'm so sorry that this one doesn't seem much better." The calming voice of a woman explained. "You see, us gods can't exactly control the outcomes of lives so we hoped that when I put you in Veronica's body, after her mental state died in her fever, you would lead a good life since you had comfort and care. We never expected... that would happen. You may not remember but before you woke up as Veronica, we tried to tell you about our apology gift to you. You... are the only person in this planet who can grow their mana reserves."

Wait what. The amount of mana you have is supposed to be a set thing when you are born. When you're a toddler it's hardly noticeable since your small body can't contain it all but once you get to the age of 10, it isn't supposed to grow.

"I know this might be hard to believe but if you meditate then your mana reserves will slowly expand and regenerate quicker!" The calm voice was now excited. "It kind of a test project though since this has never been done before."

The darkness of my dream started to get lighter.

"Oh... you're waking up." The voice said. "This is goodbye for now!"

Then everything was bright as my eyes flew open. The sun shown through my window casting shadows from my bed. Was any of that real? Well there was no harm in trying since I had nothing better to do. Just like that months passed of me meditation in the forest.
