I slept through the whole ride to the grounds. Wesley also ended up sleeping since he had nobody to talk to. When I finally woke up we were almost there and Wesley was still asleep. I shook his shoulder a little and his eyelids fluttered open to reveal his brown but slightly hazel eyes.
"We're almost there." I pointed to the scenery of trees and forest.
"Oh, okay," He yawned. "Ouch my neck is sore!"
Mine was too. It was bound to happen since we were sleeping on such a bumpy ride. The cart came to a slow halt and Coach Larkey jumped out. "Listen up! We are going to use the buddy system so everyone find a partner!"
It was obvious who would be my partner. I glanced at Wesley and found that he was looking right back at me. I blinked and burst out laughing. "You practically read my mind!" I chuckled.
He laughed slightly and replied. "Well who else would I partner up with?" He then leaned in close and whispered in my ear. "After all... you are my girlfriend."
I blushed at the words. Never in either of my lives did I ever think I would be in a romantic relationship but here we are. Everyone unloaded from the wagon and stretched their limbs. We hiked for what seemed like forever until Coach Larkey decided he had found a good place to camp. There was a stream in the clearing that he chose that he told us to get water from if we needed it. Almost everyone groaned, after all, this was a group of very rich nobles with only a few mature and smart ones.
"No complaints!" Coach Larkey butted in. "If I hear one word out of you then you're in barge of washing the dishes. Everyone set up camp!"
An assistant councilor had carried tents for us to stay in and handed one to every pair. Wait, that means that I have to share a tent with Wesley. I'm sure he won't mind. We unfolded our tent and put it together neatly. We were the lay ones to finish but ours was the sturdiest and lest messy.
Wesley raised his hand. "Coach Larkey, Veronica is a girl... am I still sharing a tent with her?"
"Oh right, Veronica's a girl!" Coach Larkey didn't seem to have remembered until now. "Umm... just figure something out. I'm sure it would be fine if you guys just shared." He dismisses the issue as if it was nothing.
"What about you, how do you feel about this?" Wesley looked at me worriedly. "If you don't feel comfortable I could see if I can join another tent and you can get this one to yourself."
"It's fine, it will be hard to find another ten willing to share with you." I replied with a shrug. "Besides, I trust you."
Wesley looked away with a tinge of pink found on his cheeks. "I-I'm going to go look around..."
"I'll come with you!" I linked my arm through his, wanting to embarrass him further. It seemed to work because his face turned from pink to red.
We walked around the forest, making sure not to stray too far away from the camp when something caught my eye. Something rustled in the bushes. It's probably just a rabbit or small creature. The sun was getting low on the horizon as we walked back to camp. A large chunk of meat was slowly being rotated above a fire pit. Most of the nobles looked stiff and uncomfortable sitting on the ground but were willing to bare with it until the trip was over. I sat down casually in the dirt and Wesley plopped down beside me. Everyone ate dinner and soon people were headed off to bed. Tomorrow we would try hunting for the first time but I personally didn't like the idea of killing or hurting things for fun. Sadly we had to be able to bring an animal back to camp by sun down or else we would get points marked off. I sighed at the issue of killing something. I would just have to find a way around it... I looked to Wesley who also didn't look comfortable with killing something.
