Y/n's POV

"This whole thing with the chimeras is driving me insane," I comment as I was standing with Scott and Stiles at the latter's locker. "Why would the dread doctors do experiments on people and then kill them? It makes no sense."

"Hey, Y/n," Theo waved as he walked past us.

"Hey, Theo," I return. "See you in bio?"

"I'll be there," Theo confirmed and flashed me a smile. "See you later."

As soon as Theo walked away, I could feel my face heating up. The memory of Theo and I kissing came to the front of my mind, and all I could do was relive that moment over and over again. Just thinking about it made my heart start pumping like crazy.

"Y/n, are you okay?" Scott asked. "I can hear you heart rate skyrocketing."

"I'm fine," I assure him and stare at Theo's retreating form.

Scott sniffed the air. "You smell off."

"I got a new perfume," I lie.

"I wasn't talking about your actual scent. I was talking about your emotional state," Scott claimed and took another sniff. "It smells like you're aroused about something. But what?"

"Y/n," Stiles started and followed my eyes, his own settling upon Theo, who was at his locker just down the hallway. "Please don't tell me it's over Theo."

"W-what? N-no," I stammer.

"So it was a date last night!" Scott exclaimed.

"What? You went on a date with Theo?" Stiles inquired.

"No," I reply. "We were just hanging out."

"But your heart rate started speeding up when he passed by, and then you smelled like arousal. That could only mean one thing. You kissed him," Stiles deduced.

"Kiss Theo? Come on, guys. That's ridiculous," I say.

Scott raised his eyebrows. "Are you lying straight to our faces?" 

"No. I would never. But I've got to go now. Bye," I rush out and head off down the hallway. "Theo! Wait up!"

"Hey," Theo greeted. "What's up? I thought I wasn't gonna see you til bio."

"I need your help with something. Come with me," I urge and lead Theo outside. I took him to a balcony that overlooked the main courtyard which was bustling with students. "The police found eight new holes out on the lacrosse field. That means there's eight more chimeras. We need to find them. Start looking for abnormal behavior. Anyone acting a little off or a little weird."

"Isn't everyone a little weird in high school?" Theo raised.

"Yeah, good point," I agree and clutch my copy of The Dread Doctors.

"You do remember that Tracy went on a killing spree after reading that, right?" Theo questioned and nodded to the book.

"You think it's a bad idea?" I assume.

"I think Malia almost getting run down by a car could've been bad. That's why you guys haven't finished it, right?" Theo quizzed.

"We're going to," I insist.

"Y/n, I came here hoping to find a pack," Theo revealed. "I wasn't planning on watching one fall apart."

"The book's all we've got," I tell him.

"Then I'll read it too," Theo declared.
