"Ow!" Esme cries as I plunge another bobby pin into her head.
She walked to my house earlier to help her get ready for homecoming. Her house is currently packed and she lives down the street so she asked if I can help her out. I was in charge of her hair while she did her makeup. I end up doing a half-up hairdo and curled the bottom layer with my wand so the curls were extra bouncy. She ends up doing a nude cut crease with some gold shimmer. She did enough to match her pale pink halter top dress.
"Sorry! I just need one more and your hair is done," I say grabbing the last bobby pin.
"It's okay. So, when are you and Estrella going to get dressed? We still have time I can do makeup?" She volunteers makeup since she knows she can never get our hair ready in two hours.
"Oh, we aren't going," I say applying her last bobby pin in her hair. Just then Estrella walks into the room with a bowl of popcorn.
"What do you mean you're not going? Didn't you tell us that you were?" Esme turns around to view me.
"Luis isn't going and Estrella doesn't want to either," I say motioning Estrella who is peacefully eating her popcorn. Esme turns to Strella with a pleading face.
"Can't. Boyfriend's out of town and I have an interrogating sister," she tilts her head me. I roll my eyes.
"Come on guys! Look we'll have fun without Luis or your boyfriend. I'm not going with anyone," Emse starts.
"Aren't you going with Dante?" Strella asks raising an eyebrow. Esme's cheeks flush up a scarlet red.
"No, we're just friends,"
"Still?" Strella asks, shocked.
"Right? We've all tried pushing them closer together, but nada," I say shrugging and Strella laughs.
"Not the point! The point is this is Ana's last homecoming of senior year and Estrella, you won't be able to do this in 9 months. Flaunt a tiny dress while you can!" Esme exclaims.
Strella snorts. "It's more like 7 months and thanks for letting me know that I'm going to get fat."
"Not like that! Come on! We still have time to get ready!" Esme continues.
I look at Estrella who stopped eating her popcorn and looks down at my friend. "Yeah, I think she's right. This is your last homecoming and you should enjoy it." Strella says, looking at me.
"Well if I go, you go," I say. She groans but agrees.
"Yay! I can help you guys get ready! Other than your guy's hair. I don't want to get lost in the jungle this late," Esme jokes and I peak at Estrella rolling her eyes.
"We'll find something simple to wear and we'll work on hair while you do makeup. Cool?" I ask Esme. A grin appears on her face and I know her answer.
The next two hours are full of running around from my room and the bathroom. I feel like we are in one of those fast-paced tv shows where all you see are the people running from one door to another. Estrella's bladder has become very demanding and was running back and forth from the bathroom. Esme ends up giving it a try at my hair, but it doesn't last long. She ends up doing two loose french braids on the sides of my head and a small twist at the end and puts a ton of moose in my hair to keep some curls tight and in place. I end up wearing an off-the-shoulder pale pink lace short dress with some white sandals. Estrella wears a maroon long sleeve lace top with a floral skirt two-piece dress and black sandals. We were surprised to find these in our closets not really remembering where we bought them. I'm able to get Estrella's hair to settle with a simple headband. She looks stunning with her whole outfit complete.
