HOLLY, JOLLY

AFTER SHE WOKE UP IN THE MORNING AT STEVE'S SHE NEEDED TO GO HOME FOR A FEW TEXTBOOKS THAT SHE HAD LEFT BEHIND. She drove home to ACDC blasting through her car. She pulled up in the driveway only to find another parked car that wasn't her mother's.

Furrowing her eyebrows, she slammed her door and quickly got out. She found her house key and opened the door. "Mom!" She called.

"Who's car is parked in the?-" a man, probably in his thirties, walked down with no shirt and jeans on.

"Oh, God," Jess said, covering her eyes. "Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house? Mom!" She yelled. Jess uncovered her face and the man smirked at her. "Jess?" Her mother said, coming into the room.

"Oh Jesus," Jess whispered, when her Mom was wearing a tank top and short short pyjama bottoms.

She wanted to throw up in this moment. "Sweetie, hi. Wasn't expecting you home."

"Yeah, I think we can skip the small talk. I need to grab my things for school." She sighed, and ran upstairs.

She quickly grabbed her books and shoved them in her bag. She charged back down stairs again, and gave the man a glare as she went to the door. Her mother sighed. "I'm sorry about her, she's a little rude these days." Jess raised her eyebrows. Was she being serious right now?

"So, what, are you guys like, dating?" "No, we're just friends," the man said. "Oh, really? Yeah, well, okay- so I'm gonna go. I probably won't come back till later, Mom. Um, goodbye."

"Wait, Jess, we're doing dinner tonight. I'd like it if you came home to that," Natalie said. The man smiled. Something about him didn't seem right.

She wasn't sure if it was the way he smiled or the way he spoke, but every time she looked at him she got a bad feeling. She knew her Mom wasn't ready to be in a relationship yet, it's only been two years since her father went missing.

"I'll see about that. Bye." She shut the door on them and ran to her car. She started the engine, and like usual, she missed her first two classes.

She pulled up in her usual spot and parked the car.

"What the fuck did I just whiteness?"

When the bell rang for lunch Jess didn't get food from the cafeteria today. She wasn't hungry after this morning. So she was late to meet up with Steve in the cafeteria. She spotted Nancy walking to Steve's usual table and she caught up to her. "Hey," Nancy said to the girl.
