THE BATTLE OF STARCOURT

THEY WERE DRIVING AGAIN. Jess's hair blew as Joyce drove the vehicle. Her fingernails were practically bit because off of the fuzzy radio that was giving them nothing. "Still nothing?" Joyce asked.

Joyce was speeding down the road. "Nothing."

"Food court. Are you sure they said food court?" Hopper asked.

Jess glanced at him through the darkness. "I'm sorry, have my translation skills been letting you down? We don't know it's your kids."

"Yes we do," Joyce said.

"We know that it's them." Ten minutes later they arrived at Starcourt Mall. Jess hopped out of the vehicle with her crutches and Joyce put the car in park. Hopper and Murray got out as well, following Jess to the entrance of the mall. "Here goes nothing."

Jess pushed the door open with her crutches, and walked on through. She looked around the mall and shards of glass were broken everywhere, a weird looking piece of skin and blood was moving on the floor. Jess took her left crutch and pushed the crutch into the creature, it's guts squishing out of it. Standing in front of them were the kids. Steve and Robin, Eleven, Jonathan and Nancy. Eleven was sitting on the floor with a bloody nose.

Jess's eyes locked with Steve. Her heart suddenly felt whole again, and she felt as if she could cry after the long and emotional day she had. "Oh my god, Steve," the brunette said, she rushed over to him as fast as she could, and he pulled her into a hug. "What the hell." "Jess," the boy said, wrapping his arms around her.

"What- What the hell happened?"

He asked when he pulled back, and looked down at her foot which was killing her at this very moment. She hasn't had any pain killers for the last 24 hours. It was starting to feel numb again. "I Uh, kinda got shot in the foot."

"Wha- whose blood is that on your shirt?" He checked her out, running his hands on her shirt.

"It's not mine, it's not mine. I'm okay." "I thought you were mad at me," Steve said, shaking his head.

"What? Why would you ever think that?"

"Because the day at the mall before this I didn't say it back." Jess furrowed her eyebrows.

"Didn't say what back?"

"I love you," Steve said, looking at her. Jess hugged him again, and kissed his lips softly.

When she pulled away she looked at his face.

"What happened to your face?" She put a hand on the side which was covered in dried blood.

"He got beat up by Russians," Robin said.

Steve sent her narrowed eyes. "I got shot by a Russian. Long story." "Hate to break up this lovey dovey reunion," Erica, Lucas's sister said to Steve and Jess. Jess wondered what the hell she was doing there. Steve protectively wrapped an arm around her waist. "But we got more important things to worry about than your love life, Harrington."

Jess looked at Steve, her heart feeling whole again that she was back with everybody that she loved.

How would she explain this to her mother when she gets home? If they make it out of there alive, that is.
