SUZIE, DO YOU COPY?

IT HAS BEEN THE BEST SUMMER SHE HAS EVER HAD, DESPITE THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED TO HER BEFORE, JESS TRIED HER BEST TO IGNORE THE PAST AND FOCUS ON THE PRESENT. She tried to get rid of her nightmares by spending time with the people she loved most. Ever since the mind flayer army, it's been corrupting her sleep. Over the past few months nothing has been the same.

Out of everybody else Jess was taking it the hardest.

She's been through a lot. They all have.

It all would be so much easier if it could all just go away, but in her case it's stuck with her forever.

But this summer in her mind was the best she has ever had. Her friends Nancy and Jonathan, who were now together like she thought, had been keeping her preoccupied, and Steve was always there always helping her get through it and always being the one to ask her what was wrong and if she was ok.

Her mother, who has been spending a lot of time with her new boyfriend recently they've been traveling across country leaving her at home alone.

Most nights Steve would be there to hold her. To keep her mind away from the thoughts of the monsters outside her window, inching for a way to get in.

The monsters that were no longer there but she swore she heard them trying to get in at night.

"Hey," Steve said, breaking her out of her thoughts.

The girl jumped, turning to look at him.

"What's wrong?" He grabbed her face, cupping her cheeks into his palms. "Nothings wrong."

"That's a lie. I tried explaining something to you and you're totally spaced out." Jess looked down. "I'm sorry," she sighed, sitting up from her bed and stretching out her arms. Steve looked around her room then at the girl who he loved who knew that she was not ok. "Hey, you can talk to me," he said standing up, walking over to her.

"I know," she smiled slightly. "I know I can talk to you."

"What's on your mind?" He moved closer. She could feel his hot breath on her lips. "Nothing. Just you."

Steve smiled and kissed her slowly. It was slow but beautiful, the way she loved it and the way it made her feel alive, and safe.

Jess pushed him back on her bed, and Steve laid down. Jess climbed on top of him and not meaning to look at the time, she did. It was almost nine, and Steve had a night shift at chips ahoy in Starcourt mall. "Shit," she said, standing up. "What's wrong?"
