MADMAX

JESS SAT AT WINDOW SEAT STARING DOWN AT HER FATHER'S WATCH. She twirled it around her wrist, since it was a bit big for her, but she wasn't going to take it off.

Her father meant everything to her. Her father was a great man, other than not being faithful to her mother, and he was always there for her when she needed him, and she was always there for him when he needed her. When she was younger her father would always tuck her in at night. Telling her bedtime stories while her mother smiled at them through the doorway. The day he left she just thought he was going to another state, not going to the upside down. She didn't realize she was crying until a few tears escaped her eyes. The story was that Brad, her father, was on her way out of Hawkins, got a flat tire, and he crashed in the ditch.

The worst part about it was they 'found' his body buried in a ditch, he was put there, and it was ruled for a murder. Someone popped his tire before, and drove him off the road. Natalie Johnson was devastated when Hopper and the other police told her. It was like he left all over again. This time it was real, and Jess Johnson knew the truth.

Her father was taken, taken by the thing that took Will, Barbara. Taken by the thing that they killed.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her mother standing in the doorway in her housecoat.

"Jess," she spoke. Jess turned her head, and looked at her mother. "Hi." "Do you need a ride to school today? I know your car is in the shop and all, I just thought I'd ask." "Oh, um Steve and Nancy are actually gonna pick me up. They should be here in a few minutes." "Oh, alright."

Jess smiled a little and looked down at the watch again. "Your father would be so proud of you." Jess looked at her, licking her lips.

"Mom..."

"He would, Jess. He loved you. He loved you so much." "Mom, I gotta tell you-" A honk interrupted her, and she stood up. She grabbed her bag and she walked to the door. Two honks again, and Jess sighed. "I'll see you later, okay? I love you, Mom."

"I love you, too."

"Bye."

"Bye."

Jess sighed and walked downstairs. She walked out the door and to Steve's car. She opened the door and sat down, slamming the door and leaned her head on the window. "Whoa there, hello to you, too," Steve said, turning his head back at her. She looked at him with a frown.

"Sorry."

"Everything ok?" He started the car again and pulled out of the driveway.
