THE MIND FLAYER
IT WAS NIGHT, AND JESS WAS WALKING IN THE WOODS WITH THE KIDS AND STEVE TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OF WHERE THE DEMOGORGON THINGS HAD GONE TO. She walked beside Steve while Dustin, Lucas, and Max walked behind them. Jess shined her flashlight ahead of her squinting her eyes as she looked ahead. Steve looked at her and Jess smiled looking down. She couldn't help the small grin form on her face under the circumstances. She still couldn't believe that she kissed Steve Harrington.
Her best friend.
The person she grew up with.
"You alright?" The boy asked. "Um, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" She furrowed her eyebrows. "I-I mean under the circumstances." She rolled her eyes.
"Hey, Everything will be okay."
"Yeah, hopefully."
"Hey, it will."
He stopped walking for a minute, and taking her hands in his. Jess nodded, and looked down at their hands. They started walking again and Jess frowned.
She just wanted to get this night over with. So she can move on and forget about it all. "You're positive that it was Dart?"
"Yes. He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt." "He was tiny two days ago," Max said.
"Well, he's molted three times already."
"Malted?" Steve questioned. "Molted. Shed his skin to make room for growth like hornworms." Dustin replied. Jess shivered.
"Well when's he gonna malt again?" "It's gotta be soon. When he's done he'll be fully grown and close to it. So will his friends." "Yeah, and he'll be wanting more than just cats," Jess said, folding her arms.
"Mews? Who's Mews?" The young girl asked.
"It's Dustin's cat," Jess replied. "Jess!" Dustin yelled. "I knew it! You kept him!" "No, no, I he missed me. He wanted to come home."
"Bullshit!" Lucas yelled.
"I didn't know he was a demogorgon, okay?"
Jess folded her arms, watching the three fight.
"Guys, Who cares? We have to go." "I care! You put the party in jeopardy. You broke the rule of law!" "So did you! What? You told a stranger the truth? A stranger?!" "You wanted to tell her, too."
