As you departed from the Royal Family's home, you made your way to the Forest Temple, prior to the king’s directions and princess’s warnings. Before you had taken off on your task they offered you a wooden shield to protect yourself with, which you gladly accepted. You also had your tunic washed in one of the clean, non-polluted rivers before you went on your way. Sadly, the cleaning process took one of your hours. And the journey there would maybe take around three more, by your lack of knowledge of the area.
Twenty hours to free a temple you weren’t even familiar with...
"Hello!"
Your ear twitched at the sudden greeting from nearby. You look around, wondering where the shrill feminine voice came from. Nothing in view to you, you look a bit confused. "U-Um… Hello?" You asked back, confused.
"Hello!" Suddenly a tiny twinkling sound is heard as a little ball of light flutters by, near the front of your face. Shimmering white wings flapping quickly to keep it afloat. A tiny fairy seemed to have found you. You smile lightly and hold your hand up, holding your pointer finger out for her to land on. She flutters down and places itself on your finger, wings still slightly moving. "My name is Nimue! I like your outfit!" she says.
"Thank you...!" You say to her, being careful not to move your hand too much to disturb her. "I'm sorry to cut this terribly short, but I can't talk very long. I have to get to the Forest Temple as soon as I can."
"Oh! Can I help you?" She asks as her glow brightens slightly.
You look a bit confused by this, not really sure how a little creature like a fairy can help. "That’s very sweet of you, but I don't think you can....!" You say. "It's very dangerous. The Temple is overrun with evil!"
"That's okay!" She says. "If you get seriously hurt, I can help heal you!"
"Really?" You ask, your eyes widened slightly. “You can really do that?”
"Uh-huh!"
You think about this for a short while. Having a bit of help wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And you could more than likely use some healing after a battle. "Sure," You finally say to her. "You can come with me. But what if you get lost along the way?"
"No worries!” Nimue says, fluttering up a little. “I can just stay in something until you need me. Like... uh..." it flutters around you for a few moments to take a look around the area. She then flies down to a small, empty glass bottle laying in the grass, which must’ve been left by a past traveler. "Like this!" she says proudly.
You walk over and kneel beside her, picking it up to look at it. "A bottle?" You ask her, sounding unsure. "But I don't want to force you to be in this until I need you! You could suffocate!"
"No worries!" she assures you. "I'll be okay! I promise!"
You were hesitant about going through with this. “Well… O-Okay… As long as you’re sure…!” You carefully pulled out the cork of the bottle and held it out to Nimue. That was her cue to flutter inside, to which she did no questions asked. You then close the bottle tightly, but not too firm so you couldn’t get it out again, then tuck it into the pouch of your belt. “I hope she’s okay in there…” You mumble to yourself, glancing at it one more time as you continue on your way.

Around two hours of walking had passed, and you finally arrive at a very large tree. Darkened bark and falling leaves, withering from roots to branches. The poor thing looked dead or was still dying at least. Long, rotted green vines draped down from the thin twigs they claimed as their own. At the base of the tree was hollowed out by a brilliant white marble entrance, with leaves draped down over it as a doorway of sorts. The only nice thing about this plant. You slowly walked over and carefully pushed the leaves to the side. The inside of the tree was lit very dimly by frantic fireflies in small orbs encased along the walls, a staircase leading down to a dark and ominous area. You felt a chill run down your spine as you shudder, whispers of the darkness streaking past your ear to escape the deep. You take a quiet deep breath, then descend into the darkness.
