Speechless.

That’s all that was going through your head right now.

You were completely speechless.

The large tree that stood behind the sword continued to gaze at you, Your expression had to have been showing that this was an utter shock. Maybe even horror. You take a step back, only to hear him speak again. “Now now, young lady,” He said in a softer tone. “You need not to fear me. I will bring you no harm.”

You gulp a little before working up the courage to speak up again. “Who… Who are you?” You ask him, trying to keep your voice steady.

“I am what your people call the Great Deku Tree,” He clarifies, trying to not scare you any further. “I have been the sightseer for the Royal Family for generations. Please do not fear me, child.”

You hesitate before stepping forward a few steps.

“Now,” He continues, “Tell me. What is your name, young hero?”

“I… It’s (Y/n),” you say, still trying to ease yourself. “My name is (Y/n).”

“(Y/n)...” He repeats, his voice creaking like an old wood tree blown against the wind, “Such a brave and devoted name. It is a pleasure to meet you, my dear.”

“Um… Y-You too…!”

Your attention was then drawn to your left, seeing more of the little wooded creatures from before looking over at you from behind trees and rocks that surrounded the area. Each of them were small, but they all had slightly different heights, leaf masks, and body color. They seemed curious and a little frightened, so you did a small wave toward them. Some waved back while other continued to stare.

“My little Koroks have also awaited your arrival,” the Great Deku Tree continued, making you look back at him. “One of them helped to lead you here. If not for them, you would surely be lost in our forest. The Koroks have watched your feats from afar, and they have told me rumors of a young woman who was traveling the kingdom, devoting herself to protecting our land. I must admit, I found it a little hard to believe at first. But seeing you here shows they were all too true. I apologize for doubting your efforts, (Y/n).”

You simply smile and wave your hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it!” You say in a reassuring yet uplifting tone. “It's honestly not the first time…!”

He hums a bit in understanding. “I can only imagine. Yet I would not expect to see another hero so soon…”

Your mind then recalled every hint that everyone told you. Dreams, visions, everything. You had to know. And you thought now would be the time before you took up the sword to fight off evil, you had to know why.

“Why am I here, Great Deku Tree? Aside from retrieving the sword… just, why?”

He stays silent for a minute, his gaze still on your much smaller figure. “I see… You do not fully understand the situation of our land, do you?” You shook your head a little before carefully grabbing your amulet, looking at it. “All I know is that it's only been 30 years since the Calamity was defeated, and now it's already reincarnated into Ganadaur. And she kidnapped the prince to marry in only a few days. And for some reason, I was chosen to be the hero. But I… I still don’t understand… I know what I have to do, and I know how to do it.” You look up at the tree again, your expression confused and almost desperate. “But I don’t know why. Why am I the chosen spirit for the Triforce of Courage? Why am I the one to save him and not another man, as it had been in old legends? Why me?”

The Great Deku tree seemed to understand your desperation for knowledge and his “eyes” drifted shut. “Do you really want to know why you were the one to be chosen, (Y/n)? Why you are the hero Hyrule needs?”
