Chapter 15

Vihaan's room was like a perfect photoshoot background where not a single piece of furniture was out of place. The faded window panels, white linen curtains and dim twilight like bulbs attracted Sanchi as she walked into the room with Vidya beside her.

To their right, a hard wedge arm comfy sofa was laid covered with hand embroidered creamy cushions and a king size archaic bed to their left. The wooden flooring, the big panelled teak cupboard and the floor-to-ceiling dressing mirror at different corners mesmerized Sanchi's eyes.

"This is your room that you will be sharing with your husband, forever," Vidya sounded much happier than ever.

Sanchi blinked, gulping the lump forming in her throat. Taking Vidya's palms in hers, she apologized, "I'm sorry Vidya for not tell-ing the truth ear-lier. Now since the recep-tion is over, you need to know some-thing."

"You sound grave. What are you hiding from me?" Vidya said, observing her closely.

Sanchi took a deep breath. "Vihaan and I... We both are in a cont-ract marr-iage."

Vidya detached Sanchi's palms from hers and clutched her shoulders instead. "Are you kidding me? Tell me this isn't true."

Sanchi yelled, biting her lower lip between her teeth. "This is so mu-ch true, Vidya. I wish it was-n't."

As Sanchi narrated the whole of the story to Vidya, the latter dropped on her knees in distraught. Clutching her forehead in disbelief, Vidya nodded her head. "You didn't change, right? You are still the sacrificial superwoman who thinks she can cure everyone's pains by giving up her own happiness. You signed the wrong papers with Shakti to save the orphanage, you agreed to marry Vihaan because you weren't ready to accept his money without giving him anything in return. It was alright till here that you decided to keep it a secret but then?"

Sanchi nodded. "Don't misunder-stand me."

"I'm not misunderstanding you. It's just that you need to know a few more things. You agreed to come to his house and make the marriage public to save his mother's life. This is where your sacrifices touched the heights and I don't know whether I should feel proud of you. Because at last, you'll be leaving the house after six months and hurt so many people in the process."

Sanchi knelt on the ground beside her and spoke, "I know and the gu-ilt is kill-ing me. What am I suppo-sed to do? Ple-ase help me "

"Will you listen to what I say?" Vidya asked her seriously.

When Sanchi nodded, Vidya continued, "Give in to this marriage, accept Vihaan as your husband and you'll find all your pains vanishing forever. You will see the path of your future getting paved with Vihaan walking beside you. You will have no worries about lying to people or hurting them for your own motives."

Sanchi stood up and walked towards the walnut colored teak dresser in the room. Rubbing her eyes, she refused simply. "I'm so-rry Vidya, I can't do this. He's some-one who can't tole-rate me near him and even if he ever does, I can't beca-use I have my own limi-tations."

Vidya pushed herself upwards and stood beside her in front of the mirror. "What sort of limitations, Vanya? As far as I know, if you give this relationship a try, Vihaan can prove to be the best husband for you. You just need to give yourself time and patience to grow inside him. He has himself suffered a lot in his life so he can't trust women easily. But believe me, he wasn't like this before. He used to be a romantic guy at heart and a lively human being before things took a nasty turn in his life. He was pushed to the bottom of the depressed sea by some unexpected and wrong waves. Only you can bring out the old person in him."
