Chapter 16

"The AC sta-ys off and the lig-hts on for the nig-ht!" Sanchi's hoarse voice came like a bolt from the blue for Vihaan in the middle of the night. He wasn't expecting her to stay awake and charging him in such a way.

"Hickory is awake!" he muttered under his breath.

"Did you say some-thing?" she asked grousily.

Lighting the lampshade on the nightstand, Vihaan sat up vigorously to answer her in his reckless voice, "You aren't supposed to order me in my own room."

"Are you the menu-card to some cheap road-side motels and go aro-und taking orders for slug-gish custo-mers? You aren't so stop flatter-ing your-self!"

"I'm not the one to get flattered anyways so you aren't getting what you are demanding," he yelled, his voice sulking against the walls of the room.

Jumping off the sofa, Sanchi stood on the floor with her hands resting on her hips. "I can't sle-ep in the dark and AC isn't my thi-ng. It is for the riches."

Vihaan moved out of the bed and stood facing her, his deadly eyes fixed to her glowering ones. "The balcony of my room has lights, you may shift there in case you got problem sleeping in the dark. Secondly, if you're really feeling cold, grab some blankets from the cupboard and suit yourself. There's no way you can dominate me just because my parents are pampering you."

"In that case, if you hadn't expe-cted your par-ents to be pam-pering me, why did you not all-ow me to tell the truth of our marr-iage to your fat-her? The first thing I'll do tomo-rrow morning is dis-closing the truth to him," Sanchi said, her eyes wet with tears.

Sanchi's strong limbs faltered when Vihaan moved closer to her, his hands stiffened to his sides. "You aren't going to do anything as such. When you didn't allow me to disclose the truth to the people at your orphanage, you are also not allowed to do the same."

Inhaling audibly with a loud gasp escaping from his mouth, he repeated again, "My parents are as important to me as the people at the orphanage for you. You can't hurt them and so even I. After six months, we both will explain the truth individually to our own dear ones."

Sanchi's throat dried inside her as she chewed on her lower lip. Though Vihaan was arrogant, his words were true and feelings genuine for his parents. Stepping backwards, she asked humbly, "So what is the fut-ure of this relation-ship? Once the time per-iod is over, we will end up hur-ting our dear ones."

Humorous laughter erupted from Vihaan's mouth and he replied smirking, "Relationship! Are you serious? We are bound to a limited contract with some spare sheets of legal papers and nothing else. Never ever raise your hopes higher than expected."

"You are an arro-gant jerk. I really don't hope for any-thing exc-ept the fact of not hurt-ing the people who love us. Reme-mber, you and me, we both toge-ther will never make any-thing but heaps of cra-ppy bull-shits." Sanchi threw herself back on the sofa, rubbing her palms thoroughly.

Vihaan hopped back to his bed and tilted his neck to take a look at her stubborn face. "So where do we stand at last?"

"Why do you...you ask even? You just said we have noth-ing bet-ween us."

"Underestimation is harmful. I wanted to know whether you are sleeping back here or getting to the balcony, so that I can go to sleep peacefully with the lights put out and the AC on." A playful smile shaped the corner of his lips.

Sanchi spoke softly, "I will suit my-self. Just tell me where the blan-kets are. I don't want to go aro-und touch-ing your prec-ious proper-ties."

"You have already touched my things without permission. Didn't you grab your clothes from my cupboard, to change? I very well know mom has stacked your baggy clothes there. So you mustn't have missed noticing the blankets and extra pillows on the lower shelf," he said with a victorious smile, pulling his warm comforter over him.
