Ch#6 Welcome to The Base...Spy

I went into the building with a strong determination. Although a part of me still wished I wasn't enrolled here, another part of me couldn't stop myself. I had to know the secret of this hell.

"Miss Alana Anderson. You're late." I heard Mr.Smith call me out. I turned around to find Mr.Smith and Mr.Hudson walking towards me. With the looks in their eyes, they probably already know that I have been into the base.

"I'm sorry, Sir. But I suppose my father had informed you about the reason for it."

"Oh yes, he did. And it's alright." Mr.Hudson gave me a bright smile.

You swore that he practices to smile before the mirror, didn't you?

Yeah, but this smile is so genuine and sincere. Why does he look so good all of a sudden?

Maybe 'cause he is?

"Since I am a little busy, I will be leaving and Dave here, will take you to your room. And also Miss Anderson, we heard from your father that you didn't want to stay in boarding schools. But do not worry. You will enjoy this place." I was taken aback by Mr.Hudson's words laced with sincerity. I couldn't help but return back a genuine smile of my own. I wonder why Riley looked at him with so much contempt the other day.

Soon after Mr.Hudson left, Mr.Smith took a piece of black cloth from his pocket with a sly grin on his face. He tied it around my eyes. Are we playing hide and seek or what?

"Well, shouldn't the entrance be a little surprising? After all, you've broken into the dungeon already." Mr.Smith's tone suddenly changed from sweet to accusatory. I tried to stop Mr.Smith from tying the cloth around my eyes, but it was futile.

So Riley did tattletale on me. Well, I didn't expect a favor from her either. She should be grateful to me. I could hear Mr.Smith fishing out his phone and dialing some number.

"Are there empty places?"

Pause.

"Alright. Guard well. I'll be in the attic."

Another pause.

"She's probably unconscious."

One more pause.

"Okay."

And done.

Empty places? Unconscious? Who? What is he speaking about? And with whom? Is he planning to kill me already? But oh dear Lord, I haven't lived my life to the full extent yet!

I was pulled harshly by Mr.Smith. We walked a small distance and then climbed up a few stairs that probably lead to the attic. I was then thrown to the floor in the most unsatisfactory way possible.

Then did you expect him to be your Prince Charming escorting you to the ballroom?

"That's really rude to throw a woman this way, Sir" I stressed on 'Sir' to mock him. As I was set free, I quickly loosened the cloth that covered my eyes. The attic gave vibes as that of the base. It was dirty and dark, with pieces of wood in a corner. There even was a thin, dirty blanket lying in that corner. The only difference between the attic and the base was the space. The base was huge while the attic was cramped wherein barely three people could stand. Mr.Smith spoke about someone being here. But I could see no other soul.

"You think Riley is our only spy down there in the dungeon? You have no idea what you have done, child. I had to break my deal with Riley. You see, I'm a man of my words. But I had to go against my words because of you! Try doing anything smart down there, and I'll make you regret your decision of coming here over and over again."

Spy? Deal? I honestly couldn't interpret a single thing that he was speaking about. Rather than being scared about what would happen to me now, I was just all the more confused and....curious. All of my second thoughts of regretting my choice flew right out of the window. No matter what, I was firm on cracking this high level crossword puzzle.

Ugh. But I never really liked crossword puzzles.

I straightened up, making myself speak. I've been through worse, these threats were peanuts to me. "Look here, Sir. By now you must know that I'm not here to play hide and seek. Who in their right mind would want to come to this place even after knowing that this is a living hell. Well, let me tell you a secret. I am here to know what kind of a hell this is. I've been through one, let's check out how much worse this one is."

Atta girl.

It's time for them to know that they are messing with the wrong person. Mr.Smith gave me a spiteful look. He seemed to be hell bent on cracking me. But he doesn't know just how hell bent I am in cracking this Academy.

"You deserve the dungeon", he scowled. I thought the attic would be my new home.

Well the dungeon seems more welcoming.

Mr.Smith covered my eyes again even after I tried to avoid it. He then dragged me into-

Into the unknown~~!

Just shut up! You think this is the right time for you to sing the Frozen theme song!?

Who are you kidding, love. You wanted to do it. After all, you and I, we're one.

Ugh! Am I really crazy? I'm having an identity crisis.

Soon after climbing down a few stairs and walking a small distance, he uncovered my eyes and continued dragging me towards the base, I suppose. We continued walking down the never ending stairs and finally reached our destination.

Please don't imitate the navigation system now.

"Hello, my dear students. You have a new transfer student joining you. Meet Alana Anderson", he said with the sweetest smile on his face that I almost threw up with all the fake affection and love that Mr.Smith was showing. Every student remained fixed on their positions after realizing who I was.

Mr.Smith left the place after giving me a tour around the base. The huge room to which we reach after climbing down the stairs was actually the place where we sleep. Everyone sleeps together with the comforters and pillows provided, which were thrown away carelessly the last time when I saw it. The washroom was in the room beside this. It had only six stalls and two bathrooms. Too less for so many students. The base even had a cafeteria attached to it.

They really don't want the students coming out of this hell hole, huh?

Yeah. I know, right.

On the walls of the passage to the cafeteria, there were open windows on top which gave a glimpse of the entrance of the Academy. Besides these, there was nothing else in the base. There were no wardrobes or rooms to keep our belongings. Everyone had their luggages stranded on every empty space available.

While searching for an empty space for myself, the hazel eyed guy, the blonde and the Asian walked towards me. They looked at me with resentment.

Have you committed some huge crime in your past life, Al?

I have no memory of my past life, dear me.

"Welcome to the base...Spy."

I guess I'm not welcomed here.

Stop guessing. You're so not welcomed here.
