Ch#48 The Brave Soldier
"Any news from Mr.Hudson yet?", I asked Dad as we were devouring Mum's pancakes. I wonder why I didn't get these genes. Mum is a great cook while I'm one of those who would even burn water.
Yeah, I'm that bad at cooking.
"Not yet. He called me earlier to inform me that the files were all handwritten. So he's going through the addresses one by one, manually", Dad replied while I nodded in response. Soon we heard the doorbell ringing.
"Aiden's here I guess. I'll get the door." I opened the door to find Aiden with huge bags of dark circles beneath his eyes.
"Boy, your girl didn't let you sleep all night or what", I teased him in a whisper while he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, my assignments love me too much. College life sucks", he grumbled and walked into his room after greeting Mum and Dad. He has been extremely busy since the past few weeks with his projects, assignments and exams. He kept going back and forth to his friend's house for some new project. Poor boy, he hasn't had a good night's sleep since days.
My phone started blaring Boom Boom of Seventeen as I went back to continue my breakfast.
"It's Mr.Hudson", I gestured to Dad.
"Hello. Did you get the address?", I asked him directly.
"Yes. Finally after searching for hours. I've texted you the address. I even called the hospital to check his free time. Seems like he took a month-long vacation. Hence, I can't assure you that you'll be able to find him there", Mr.Hudson replied.
"Oh. Thank you, Mr.Hudson. We'll check it out if he's there or not", I thanked him as I hung the call and immediately dialed Yohan.
"Hey. We got Louis' dad's address. Let's hit the gas right away", I urged.
"Okay. That's great. I'll pick up Ellis and Beth and reach your place."
"Alright. Be here soon."
"Bye."
I finished my pancakes and walked into my room to take a shower. As the cold drops of water drizzled over my body, my head wandered around Louis. We were going to meet his father today. I am supposed to relay his message. Would I be able to do it without crying? Will I be able to provide comfort to his dad? Tears welled up my eyes as my thoughts clustered.
"It is difficult for you, Al. But think about his dad. Just how much more difficult it must be for him. Hold yourself in for Louis. He doesn't want you to cry too much. Don't make him sad", I uttered to myself as I got dressed up.
Soon enough, Yohan reached home with Ellis and Beth and I waved goodbye to Mum and Dad and went off in his car.
"Here's the address. Put it on navi", I handed the address while Ellis entered it on the GPS. We didn't utter a word en route to Louis' house. We were nervous and depressed. We didn't know what to speak and how. Soon after, we reached and got out of the car as Yohan parked it. We stood before the door as we hesitated to ring the bell. I took a deep breathe in and pressed the bell button.
"Ellis, just call me ugly if I'm about to cry, okay?", I quickly reminded him.
"Oh, don't worry about that", he replied as a really cute little girl opened the door for us.
"Mommy, we have guests here", she yelled.
"Oh, how many times have I told you to ask who it is before opening", her mother, I guess, replied back as she reached the door.
