Ch#7 Because You're the First

Day two at the base. I did survive through day one. The whole day long I was met with scornful eyes, mouthful of beautiful cusses, and a lot of hate. But hey, I'm still alive. I went towards the cafeteria to have my breakfast. Nobody woke me up and so I am late. I just brushed my teeth and ran a comb through my hair. I decided to wash up later to silence my grumbling stomach. I have to admit it. The food here is amazing. Everything else is in such a poor state. But there's no compromise done with the food. I don't understand why though.

I didn't have to wait in a long queue as I was the last one. I tried to find empty tables, but could find none. I then saw Hazel Eyes, the Blonde and the Asian. There was space for two more people at their table. I therefore walked towards them.

"Don't even dare to sit on our table", said Hazel Eyes without even giving a glance at me.

When did he even see me coming?

"You don't own the table. Besides, I don't see your name written anywhere." I had to go against his will and sit on the empty chair available on their table. You see, you tell me to not do something and I will so damn do that. Yeah, that's how I am.

The moment I sat, the three of them, as if on cue, got up and joined another table far from this one. I sighed and began to devour my food. The day these people would know why I'm here, they would get on their knees and beg for forgiveness.

This ain't your typical high school Kdrama, love.

Shut up, will you?

Right then, Riley came up to my table and started to dig her food without a word. I continued to eat, shaking my head. Nothing's more important than food. Yupp.

"So, how's life as a spy?"

Good question. I need to know what these spies are at this place.

"What are these spies here? Are you a spy? And why does that hazel eyed guy call me a spy?"

"Well, a spy can be defined as 'a person employed by an organization to secretly obtain information on an enemy or competitor."

"Like seriously? Are you kidding me? Kimbap-ie kidding?"

"What's kimbapie?"

"Forget it. It's Carat stuff."

"Carrot? Whatever. Myself, Terence and Matt there, are the spies here. If we find any suspicious act going on in the base, we report it to Dave. It was them who informed about you breaking into the Base ."

"How do I know if they are the ones who reported on me or... you?", I asked suspiciously.

"I don't want to prove myself. I've stopped reporting about the incidents happening in the Base whose subsequences are faced by the students here", she replied with guilt laced in her voice.

"Why am I called a spy?"

"Because..."

She looked away from her food to meet my eyes.

"You're the first to break into the Base, the first to know there are secrets in Stoneridge before enrolling, and the first to enroll even after knowing that this place is a living hell." Her eyes held an indefinite hope, which she surely receives from me.

She's expecting from you.

"No one has ever done that before. So it's a little difficult for the others to trust you at the moment", she explained while I looked at her, with a burdened emotion held in my eyes. Would I be able to save them? Or have I put them all in a more dangerous situation?

"Anyways, need tips to lead a happy life at the base?"

"Why not, Milord. I would be blessed", I replied sarcastically.

"First of all, get close to the three of those whom you just made to get up from their table."

"Excuse me? There's no rule that you own where you sit. Besides, I wasn't being serious for you to give me 'tips'" I told drawing quotations in air on the word 'tips'.

"Alright then. For whatever reason you are here, I hope all your plans will go down the drain."

She has a point, genius. You told you're here with a mission now. Taking her help wouldn't reduce your height.

Alright, you really need to shut up now. Why the hell would her help reduce my height!? Ugh! I just rolled my eyes at myself.

"Well if you insist so much, I wouldn't mind if you share the tips", I said, giving in reluctantly.

"I'm not insisting, Alana", she replied with an amused smile and continued eating as if nothing ever happened.

You're playing hard to get now, huh.

"Ok fine. I need to know the tips, alright."

"Now that's what I wanted to hear. The Asian guy, born in Korea, brought up in the US. Name : Kim Yohan. He is one of the earliest students here. He joined in together with me and the spies, Terence and Matt. He too was offered to be a spy, but he was too good to accept the offer."

I gave her a look to continue.

"The blonde, that's Bethany Hammington. She joined here a bit later than Yohan, together with Ellis. The hazel eyed guy that you were speaking about, that's Ellis Walker. He's the 'leader' of the base. Those three, somehow ended up being friends. Everyone looks up to them for help. Although Ellis is the leader, the three together lead the students here. You too can rely on them for any help. But be careful. You won't be welcomed easily."

I nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I could say that as well."

"Yohan, Bethany and Ellis. How am I ever gonna get close to them? They hate the mere sight of me. They think I'm a spy. And I can't even butter people. I'm not good at that stuff."

"Who told you to butter them? Just be the butter." She gave me a knowing smile.

Alright, Al. Just be the butter.

Then they would be the pan.
