Ch#11 Period of Existence
The brunette took me to a corner of the room and I saw a table full of medical supplies. I sat on a chair beside the table and felt a jolt of pain from my rib.
It's alright Al. You've been through worse. Just hold it in.
"Are your ribs bruised?" asked the brunette.
"Oh we get bruises when kicked repeatedly? I thought it would be rainbows", I replied to him sarcastically, barely holding in the pain. He only raised his eyebrows at me, not being able to decipher my wit.
Idiot.
Yeah. I know, right.
"Let me dress your wounds first. Then we can take a look at the bruises." I nodded. He took a pair of scissors and cut the sleeve of my t-shirt. I didn't mind either. It was torn with the blows it received from the wood. He examined my arm and then took out tweezers amongst his supplies.
"This is gonna hurt a little. I hope you can bear the pain." I looked at my arm and saw splinters beneath the skin.
"Don't you have anesthesia or something? I'm already dying with pain."
"I don't have it yet. I have placed the order for it though. Dave will bring it soon." This time, it was my turn to raise my eyebrows. Who is he? The local doctor of the base? I held my breathe as he began to pluck out the splinters. I looked at him with admiration. He was fully focused and seemed experienced in his job.
"What is your name?"
"Louis. Louis Wren", he answered unbothered.
"How do you know about all this medical stuff?"
"My dad is a doctor. He had taught me a few stuffs."
I then continued, "Does Dave provide you these supplies? He lets you treat the students after beating the daylight out of them?"
"That's the only way he wouldn't need to take us to the hospital. Therefore he provides us with whatever medical supply I ask for. It keeps him safe as well."
I pondered over Louis' words. He has a point. If Dave wouldn't provide the medical supplies and wouldn't even let him treat the injured students, he would have to take them to the hospital and legal intervention may take place.
All of them are trapped here forever.
"Also, that is the reason why I never get beaten up by Dave", he voiced out with guilt. At first, I didn't get it. But soon realization hit me.
"So that you are always there to treat the injuries of the others that are caused by him." I let out a sigh. At least, he's lucky that he doesn't get to suffer the physical pain.
But it must be more painful to look at your injured friends, while you sit pain free.
Both of us remained silent thereafter and Louis continued to dress up my wounds. Soon after, the Leaders came towards us and Louis gave them a look that he's almost done with me. While he worked on my temple, I looked at Ellis, Yohan and Bethany one by one. All three of them held a look of apology. They couldn't meet my eyes, but I could tell they wanted to speak to me. My eyes subconsciously fell upon Ellis' and Yohan's cut on their neck. They still didn't get the stitches.
"Do you know how to stitch as well?", I asked Louis.
"I didn't. I had to learn when they got the deep cut. It took me a while, but I got the hang of it. That is why, these guys had to wait for a while. But don't worry, I didn't let them get infected." He shot me a bright smile which I returned with mine as well.
"Now could you lift your t-shirt, if you don't mind. I need to take a look at those rainbows." I smiled at him and lifted up my t-shirt enough for him to look at my bruises.
So he did decipher your wit, huh.
Yeah. He isn't an idiot after all.
"Okayy. That looks really bad. Do you think any of the ribs are broken?"
"I don't think so." I remember the pain of broken ribs and so I knew that all of my ribs were perfectly alright this time, just a little bruised.
"Be careful, Alana. You'll be hurting 24/7. You walk, you stand, you sit, you'll feel a jolt of electricity at this scale."
Okay, not a little bruised, I guess.
He shuffled his supply of ointments and gave me one. "Apply this day and night and eventually, you will be healed. Also, take this painkiller. It'll make your life easier." I took both the ointment and the painkiller and thanked him. Just as I was about to leave, Yohan called out my name.
"Alana, we want to speak to you." I turned around and tried to not sound bitchy.
"I'm sorry, but can we do it later?" I was exhausted. I wanted to block all my thoughts. Speaking to them right now, would only drain me even more.
As if on cue, all three of them nodded simultaneously. Their childish nod made a smile crawl up my lips. I turned to my back before they could catch it. I saw the ointment that I was holding and realized that I needed help. I contemplated whether or not to ask for Bethany's help and shook off the idea from my head. Why on earth would she help me? She was super bitchy when I first met her. Remember?
But asking her help won't reduce-
Not my height!
-your period of existence.
Ugh! Just shut up!
I walked towards the cafeteria as that would be the only empty place at this moment. I didn't want people staring at me and feeling pity for me.
After struggling from several jolts of electricity from my ribs, I finally reached the cafeteria. I sat on the nearest table and lifted up my t-shirt and tucked it under my sports bra. I took a look at my rainbow of bruises.
It really does look like a rainbow of red, purple and green.
I tried to apply the ointment but couldn't reach the entire area. Ugh. I should have asked for Bethany's help. I looked around to make sure nobody was present in the cafeteria and removed my t-shirt as it kept hindering me. I focused all my attention solely on accomplishing this mission while keeping in mind about my hurt arm.
"Hey, need some help?"
"Oh my gosh!!" I almost fell from the table from the sudden surprise attack and felt a stabbing pain from my ribs.
"F*ck! This hurts like bitch! Ugh! You motherf*cker Dave! You watermelon seed eating Siberian husky! F*ck you!" Whoever the person was, burst out laughing, listening to my colorful curses. I tried to hold my pain and looked at the intruder.
"You?"
